Grassroots Trust is dedicated to providing local funding to local communities. They share your passion and enthusiasm for amateur sport, education and various charitable community initiatives and we’re here to help.
Great care is taken to ensure funds granted are well used and for the authorised purpose, and many local communities have already benefited from a Grassroots Trust grant.
Grassroots Trust operates in accordance with the Gambling Act 2003 and is regulated by The Department of Internal Affairs.
Lion Foundation
The Lion Foundation is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most respected Charitable Trusts. Since 1985 we have returned over $1 billion back to the community, supporting thousands of good causes all around New Zealand.
We have many Lion Foundation venues and gaming machines across the country and we consistently return millions of dollars into the community. Last year that equated to over $33 million through over 3,000 grants for community-based organisations across New Zealand. That is 10 good causes every day – causes as diverse as the people who live in those communities: from Northland to Bluff, east coast to west, rural to urban. In fact, there are few Kiwis whose lives have not been touched by a Lion Foundation grant.
To reinforce their commitment to our local communities The Lion Foundation has introduced Regional Grants Committee’s which operate across the country.
These committee’s ensure that we have local people making local decisions about local funds.
NZ Community Trust
Established in 1998, NZCT is one of New Zealand's largest gaming trusts with 13% of market share. They are proud of the contribution we make to local communities, particularly in the area of amateur sport and active participation. They couldn't do what we do without the help of our hard-working gaming room operators.
NZCT pioneered the development of Regional Advisory Committees (see links in the navigation menu for details) whose members advise us on the distribution of gaming funds in their communities. These committees are made up of highly respected leaders who add local insight and knowledge to our grants decision-making.
NZ Racing Board (TAB)
TAB New Zealand (TAB NZ) is a statutory body established through the Racing Industry Act 2020 which provides betting services to New Zealanders and makes returns back to New Zealand racing and sporting organisations.
When you bet with the TAB on the gallops, trots or greyhounds, take a punt on the All Blacks, the White Ferns or European football, every betting dollar contributes to grassroots racing and sports in New Zealand as well as the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Kiwis involved in these sectors. Each year, around $200 million is returned to New Zealand racing and sports.

Counties Manukau Sport
Counties Manukau Sport, a proud partner of Counties Manukau Rugby League Stingrays is a community organisation established to help improve the quality of sport and physical activity for all people in the Counties Manukau region. This is achieved by working alongside a variety of sport and physical activity groups that are resident in Mangere-Otahuhu, Otara-Papateotoe, Manurewa, Papakura, Howick and Franklin.
Their work includes supporting regional organisations, clubs, community groups, schools, groups involved in health, Marae, Maori groups, groups for people with a disability, territorial local authorities, and the local business community. Counties Manukau Sport is a charitable trust incorporated in 1991 under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957.
