It’s an exciting time across our Zone as netball trials get underway and communities gear up for another big season. We suspect the Sporty hotline is running hot as Centres and Clubs perfect their competitions and get everything ready for the year ahead, love your mahi keeping things humming!

Our team has also been out and about. We recently joined Nelson Netball for their Coach Development Weekend, two days of learning, connection, and fresh ideas. We also headed over to Westport to support their Summer Camp, where the energy and talent on display were fantastic to see.

It’s great to see so many PDP, coaching and umpiring opportunities happening across the Zone, with more still to come.

As trials and grading get into full swing, we want to acknowledge the athletes navigating this part of the season. It can be a mix of excitement and nerves, so let’s continue to wrap our players in support, clear communication, and plenty of encouragement. Creating environments where athletes feel confident, valued, and well‑supported sets them up for success both now and throughout the season.

As the season shifts from summer to winter sports, it’s a great time to look ahead and set some goals.

Use the Smart Training checkpoint (Page 13 of Smart Player) to guide your weekly load. Include all training sessions, games, other sports, P.E classes or social sports – making sure you have plenty of time for rest, recovery, school and a social life! Have a chat to parent/coach/teacher about how you can maintain their balance throughout the netball season.

You play your best netball when you’re happy and healthy, and that starts with great planning! 😊
