The Sub Assoication was formed in the late 19th century. This proud association have produced a number of Canterbury & Canterbury Country Representative over the years.

Henry Nicholls who is a member of the Diamond Harbour-Kaituna Club is a current New Zealand Under 19 Cricketer & Canterbury Represenative cricketer.

The flagship team is know as the Crays, owing to the bays throughout the Peninsula which house thousands of this popular delicacy.

Up until 2006 Banks Peninsula had their own competition, with a number of clubs fielding Senior teams in their own right. Former clubs include the Allandale CC based at Governers Bay, Le Bons Bay CC, Akaroa CC, Diamond Harbour CC, Wainui CC, Awa-iti CC based at Little River, Little River CC, United CC based at Duvechelles and the Kaituna CC based at Ataahua. As a result of a declining population base, and some key players getting a little long in the tooth, or playing golf, a number of these clubs are now in recess.

The Banks Peninsula Sub Association can lay claim to some of the most picturesque cricket grounds in New Zealand. These include Stoddart Park at Diamond Harbour, Jubilee Park at Akaroa and the Le Bons Bay Domain at Le Bons Bay
