One of the most popular parts of membership to the Greater Wellington Disc Golf Club (GWDGC) is the Bag Tag Competition.
The idea is simple: every member is issued a virtual Bag Tag number, and each time members play in a local event or a Bag Tag Challenge match, after the scores are counted and the dust has settled, the players exchange Tags. The winner gets the lowest Tag and so on until all the Tags are redistributed. At the end of the Membership Year the player with Tag #1 takes the winning spot.
Bag Tag Challenges happen all year round with people reaching out to other club Members to arrange a match and the chance to win a lower Tag. The ultimate goal is to get the lowest Tag you can and hold it against all Challengers.
To make the matches fun and fair and to stop the holder of Tag #1 hiding at home in their cupboard, the Club has set the below rules. So get out and challenge whoever is holding a lower numbered Tag than you .... These rules will even let you challenge whoever is holding the coveted #1 Tag.
Bag Tag Rules
Distribution:
The Bag Tag competition is run using a mobile app. You will have a virtual Tag assigned at the first Club Event of the Membership Year: the Committee aims to have Tags distributed to Members as early as possible in the Membership Year. Distribution at the Distribution Event will only be made to fully paid up Members of the GWDGC. The method of allocation of the Tags to Members at the Distribution Event will be solely at the discretion of the Club Committee.
If someone joins the Club after the initial distribution event, they will become eligible for a Tag and will be automatically assigned one. The Bag Tag assigned to any Member under these circumstances will be the next Tag available in ascending order; for example, if the highest Member Tag previously assigned was Tag #120 then the next new Member will be assigned Tag #121.
Rules:
Challenges:
Any current GWDGC Member, regardless of what Tag number they hold, may challenge, be challenged, or participate in Bag Tag challenges with any other Member of the GWDGC.
Members must accept any challenge, and they have two weeks to play the round with the Challenger or Challengers.
A challenged Bag Tag carrying Member has no obligation to play a Bag Tag Challenge Round in anything less than two weeks from the date of challenge.
Acceptance of a challenge and the setting of a time and date for the challenge round does not exclude the Challenger or the Challenged from playing any another challenge event before playing the earlier accepted and scheduled challenge round.
A challenged Member may not deny a challenge based on having been previously challenged; such a refusal will result in the challenged Member forfeiting the challenge with all the normal consequences of losing a Bag Tag Round.
A failure to accept a challenge and play the round within two weeks will result in the challenged Member forfeiting the challenge with all the normal consequences of losing a Bag Tag Round.
Every round at a club event: Hoscar, Hyzer, Social Sunday, Ladies League and Club PDGA sanctioned Leagues, is by default a Bag Tag round with the entire field playing a Group Challenge Round against every other Tag carrying Member in the field.
Any Member who enters into a club event, without exception, agrees that by entering the event that they have entered into a Bag Tag challenge with the entire field.
Bag Tag challenges at a Multi-Round Club Event are on a round-by-round basis with Tags being exchanged at the end of each round.
The commencement of each new round in a multi-round club event constitutes the start of a new Group Challenge for the all participants in the field who are Tag carrying Members.
The Event Coordinator of any club event can at their sole discretion elect to have the club event not operate as a Group Challenge Round; under these circumstances the individual card participants can elect to play a Bag Tag Challenge between the Members on their card or any subset of those Members who wish to participate in a Bag Tag Challenge.
Any party to a Bag Tag Challenge Round can ask for a 're-match' but such a request constitutes a separate and new Challenge to which all of the ordinary rules described here apply.
Challenges can be issued by a Member during the period from the day they are issued a Bag Tag for the current Membership Year through to the final day of the current Membership Year.
When a challenge is issued in the last 15 days of the Membership Year the challenged member must accept the challenge and play before the expiration of the current Membership Year.
The operation of 5(a) means that if a challenge is issued on the final day of the Membership Year it must be accepted and played prior to the expiration of the Membership Year.
If a member receives multiple challenges in the final 15 days of the Membership Year, the challenged member must make all reasonable efforts to play all of the challenges prior to the expiration of the Membership Year. To allow for a challenged member to respond to multiple challenges in the final 15 days of the Membership Year, the challenged member can elect to play the challengers as a Group Challenge or multiple Group Challenges.
A failure by a challenged member to make all reasonable efforts to respond to a challenge in the final 15 days of the Membership Year will make them subject to the normal rules of Tag forfeiture.
Any member who has a right to issue a Challenge, has a right prior to the commencement of the Challenge Round to withdraw their Challenge without penalty.
Bag Tag Challenge Round Formats and Outcomes:
Bag Tag Challenges can be played in different formats:
Head to Head Challenge Rounds:
Challenger and Challenged are the only players on the card,
the player with the lowest score at the end of the round is awarded the lowest numbered tag held by the players, and
if the players draw then the players retain the Tags they started the round with.
Group Challenge Rounds:
All players on a card agree prior to the commencement of the round to play a Bag Tag Challenge Round,
the player with the lowest score at the end of the round is awarded the lowest numbered tag held by the players,
the other Tags are then distributed based on the position of score of each player on the card, and
if any of the players on the card draw then they collectively receive Tags which correspond to their score; these Tags are then distributed between the tied Members through a score count back from the last hole.
Club Event Whole of Field Challenge Rounds:
All participants in any Club Event who are Tag carrying members are by default participating in a Group Challenge Round with the all participants in the field who are members of the GWDGC constituting the Group for the Tag Challenge,
Bag Tags will be automatically redistributed at the end of the round via the App.
Any party to a Bag Tag Challenge Round who withdraws once a round has commenced will be awarded the result of "Did Not Finish" and will be treated as having forfeited the match with all consequent obligations for having lost a Bag Tag Challenge Round.
Regardless of the format of the Bag Tag Challenge the exchange or redistribution of Bag Tags is to be affected immediately after the Challenge Round or Club Event is completed by all participants.
Scoring Bag Tag Challenge Rounds:
Members participating in a Bag Tag Challenge or Club Event must score using a system nominated and approved by the GWDGC; including PDGA or Udisc.
A failure to score using an approved recording system will result in the participating members losing the right to hold the Tags in their possession.
Bag Tag General Obligation:
Members engaging in Bag Tag Challenges must comply with the Club' Code of Conduct.
Respect one another and have fun.
Powers of the GWDGC Committee:
The Committee at all time has the sole right to update or change any part of these Rules, including by replacement in their entirety. If the Committee updates or changes the Rules the revised Rules will be posted on the GWDGC website and Members will be notified that a change has been affected: that notice will be sent to the most recent email address that each Member has provided to the Committee.
The GWDGC Committee expressly reserves the unilateral right to decide all disputes and to take all reasonable action to enforce any decision so made.
End of Season Results
At the end of the GWDGC season, a ranked list of Bag Tag holders will be compiled based on information provided by members and then published on the GWDGC website.
