CHAMPS

NZPCA Eventing Championship (Champs) is an annual event hosted at different selected areas throughout the whole of New Zealand. This is an inter-area competition of which there are only 16 areas in New Zealand and each area only sends a team of six.  Three trials are held in Bay Of Plenty which decides on a team of:

2 A1 (110cm XC & 115cm SJ) riders aged under 25

2 DC (105 XC & SJ) riders aged under 18

2 MT (95cm) riders aged under 16

Eventing champs is the original national event within pony club and is considered the pinnacle of a pony club riding career as it covers dressage, show jumping, cross country & a high level of horse mastership.

Horse Of The Year

This is an inter-area event.  Each year riders from the Bay Of Plenty area trial to make the team to compete at Horse Of The year Show in Hastings against other pony club areas in New Zealand. The teams do their rounds in front of an impressive crowd which adds to the pressure of the event. The team is made up of:

2 Ponies 1.05cm

2 Hacks 1.15cm

Champs Week

Since 2021 NZPCA have combined Showjumping, Games and Dressage Championships into one extravaganza week of competing, held in a South Island and a North Island venue and the results combined to create National Championships for each discipline.  The BOP select and send teams for each discipline to Champs Week, held in January.
