We’re excited to announce that our Year 1 & Year 2 Rippa grades will now be played on Friday evenings.
Games will be hosted across multiple venues, creating a fun, festival-style atmosphere for players and families to enjoy.
Looking ahead, Friday nights may also become our dedicated non-contact rugby night for older players who would like to stay involved in the game in a non-contact format.

JUNIOR CLUB RUGBY
Junior Rugby is where the journey begins.
At Hawke’s Bay Rugby, our junior grades are all about fun, friendships, skill development and building a lifelong love for the game. Whether your child is picking up a rugby ball for the first time or returning for another season, we provide a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for all abilities.
From Rippa Rugby through to tackle grades, our focus is on participation, confidence and enjoyment. We want every child to leave the field smiling, learning something new, and excited for next week.
We're excited to be developing a non-contact rugby pathway that supports players from Year 1 right through to adults. This staged approach is designed to grow the game by offering inclusive opportunities now, with the goal of introducing formal competitions in the future.
We recognise that not every player is ready to move into tackle rugby straight away. This pathway allows players to continue building their skills, confidence, and game understanding in a safe, enjoyable environment and transition into contact rugby when the time is right for them.
For some, non-contact rugby will be their long-term choice. By providing strong alternatives, we're ensuring players can stay involved, stay active, and stay connected to their club and community.
The intorduction of T1 Rugby also opens the door for returning, retired, or social adult players who still want to enjoy a competitive, tactical, and fast-paced version of the game without contact.
With World Rugby driving this format internationally, there are exciting opportunities on the horizon.
Keep an eye out for upcoming T1 rugby festivals and events - and be part of the future of the game in Hawke's Bay!
