Rationale
*That a transparent policy be adopted so all students, parents and staff are aware of the criteria for selecting a Hereworth first or second team
*This policy relates to the following sports first, second and third teams: Cricket, Tennis, Softball, Rugby, Football and Hockey
*To provide guidelines of the selection procedure for students and parents

Guidelines
*A Hereworth staff member will always be in charge of first, second and third teams, this can be as a coach or manager.
They may be assisted by an outside provider or a Hereworth parent.

*To be eligible for a Hereworth first team a student is expected to play mid week/Saturday sport for the school.

*The selection process will involve a minimum of two trials, which will include skills and game sessions. The students will be selected on merit regardless of age. However, students in Years 5 and 6 may only trial if the Director of Sport believes it is deemed appropriate.

*At least two people will be involved in the selection process. One will be a Hereworth staff member and the other can be either a Hereworth staff member, parent coach or a coach from an outside provider.

*At the conclusion of the trials a squad will be announced by the Director of Sport.

*Students who have missed out, or who have been injured, are encouraged to approach the selection panel to determine areas for improvement and a pathway to future selection.

*Studetns selected for first teams are expected to be available for games or tournaments, which are held in the holidays.

*The squad is fluid and may be changed during the season for any of the following reasons: injury, fitness, attitude, performance, improvement by those who have not gained selection through the initial process.

*The captain of the team will be selected by the coach/es within two weeks after the start of the season and will be formally announced in assembly by the Director of Sport.
