Havelock North Swimming Club

Coaches/Committee members

Pam Lowe (Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 Coach)

I have 3 passions in life, my family, my job, and travel.

When one finds a passion and it becomes a job, it doesn’t feel so hard to go to work.

I’m a Life Member of the Havelock North Swimming Club but I started off teaching children to swim with John Beaumont in 1972. I worked for him for 6 years, then I was the manager of the Havelock North Swimming Pool (as it was called then - now the Village Pools ) for 7 yrs. Teaching swimming was part of my conditions of employment. My children were involved with the Havelock North Swim Club from 1975 until 1985 when we moved to Feilding. I was also involved with the HN Swim club as a time keeper, committee member and a diving representative on the HBPH Swim Club. I went to Feilding as the Assistant Pool Manager, where I taught children to swim as well. I was in Feilding for 11yrs. I moved north to Whangamata in 1996 as the Pool Manager, where I taught children to swim as part of my conditions of employment. I was there till 2007 when I moved back to Hawke’s Bay. I spent over 3yrs at Flaxmere pool, teaching children to swim. I started my own swim school in 2010, and that was the year I came back to the HN Swim Club. While back in Hawkes Bay I also was involved with the Waimarama Surf Club and the West shore Surf Club where I helped coach the nippers and volunteered as an Official.

It is really rewarding to see children grow in confidence, not only in their swimming ability but in all sports and life in general. It’s the “watch me, I can do it” moments, when a child has mastered the art of floating , getting their feet off the bottom of the pool, or whatever other skill they have been trying to perfect.

When not at work I love to travel.....I work to travel

Angela Hunter (Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 Coach)

I have been swimming for as long as I can remember.

At primary school after passing my Bronze Star for Life Saving, my teachers had me helping the juniors learn to swim. So the joy of Swim Teaching started young. I have had many years both in Hastings and Gore swim teaching and love it.

I’m originally from Invercargill but moved to Hastings in 2016. My children and I started with the swim club in 2022. I have two young boys and an older girl.

Water safety and water confidence are important skills every child in NZ need. I am happy to be part of so many children's water journeys.

June Wilson (Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2 Coach)

At 15 I was competing in swimming for the Hawkes Bay team and I was invited by the Napier Swim Club to start coaching learn to swim, this is what started my swim teaching journey.

I then moved onto being a member of the Trojans masters swim club. While I was swimming with Trojans my children were learning to swim through the Havelock North Swim Club and I quickly ended up helping coach for the club while they were in their lessons as well. This then introduced me to the I.H.C special Olympia programme for which I became heavily involved in.

I have also worked as a life guard for Waimarama, am a registered swim official and was a relief coach at Clive pool for over two years. I am a life member and patron of Havelock North Swim Club and am still working at the local Mobil for over 34 years.

Cade Gibson (Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2 Coach)

I have had a passion for swimming from a very young age. I have been with HNSC since primary school and learnt how to swim with the club. Now I am lucky enough to be a trainee instuctor. I am working towards my AUSTSWIM certificate which I hope to complete this season. I attend Havelock North High School.
