Victoria University Hunters Rugby League Club

The Victoria University of Wellington “Hunters” Rugby League Club has been running since 2000 and plays in the local Wellington rugby league competition.  Although our beginnings were through our association with Victoria University and we still maintain a close relationsihp with them, we welcome players from throughout the Greater Wellington region.

We are based at Kelburn Park, our home ground and primary training facility and are the only Rugby League Club in the Wellington City area.

Our club is proud to have members who have been selected to represent the NZ Kiwis, Warriors, NZ University Rugby league team, Wellington Men’s Rugby League team (the Orcas) and Western Bays Junior representative teams.

In 2013 the University Hunters took out the Wellington Rugby League title for the first time, winning the Grand Final against the Randwick Kingfishers 22–10.

Our Premier and Premier Reserve teams have both been semi-finalists and grand finalists since our Grand Final win:

Our Premiers were the 2020 Plate Winners against Te Aroha Eels, in a nail biting, edge of seat game, making a final 14 minute comeback after being down 18-34 to win 34-38!
