We have four levels of practical assessment for umpires.  The Hurunui Netball Centre levels can be assessed within our centre.  The Netball New Zealand award level has to be assessed by a New Zealand qualified umpire out of our centre.

Theory Testbanks
Before any practical assessment can be undertaken, the prospective umpire must sit a NNZ theory  testbank and obtain 23 out of 25.  This is the responsibility of the club.  The testbank can be completed as many times as it takes to pass.  Results must be passed to our Umpire Co ordinator,  Bec Murdoch, [email protected]

Practical Umpiring Levels
We use the Netball New Zealand Centre Assesment/Qualifying document when assessing umpires.

Junior
To obtain a junior pass you have to umpire a Primary A game.  You have to score 19 out of a possible 31 points to achieve this pass.

Intermediate
To obtain an intermediate pass you have to umpire a Senior B game. You have to score 23 out of a possible 31 points to achieve this pass.  It is possible for an umpire to get their junior pass at this level, scoring between 19 and 23 out of 31 points at this level.

Senior
To obtain a senior pass you have to umpire a Senior A game.  You have to score 27 out of a possible 31 at this level.  It is possible for an umpire to get their junior pass, scoring between 19 and 23 points or their intermediate pass, scoring between 23 and 26 points at this level.

NNZ Centre Award
To obtain a pass at this level we have to organise for you to umpire a game at representative level or a game outside the Centre.  In the past we have had a strong relationship with Kaikoura Netball Centre, many of our senior umpires have obtained their Centre Award from umpiring games there.  Alternatively we can organise for someone to observe you umpiring a game at one of our representative fixtures.
