OVERVIEW

The Kaweka Challenge was a mountain running event held many years ago based at Kuripapango in the Kaweka Ranges, Hawkes Bay.  The event ran for many years since its inception in 1991 before succumbing to the normal pressures of running large events. 

I am proposing to run a more grass roots style, not for profit running event comprising three distances, supporting different local Hawkes Bay charities in the first weekend of December 2026.

GOALS

1. Support three local charities by using entry fees from runners.

2. Raise awareness of the Kaweka Ranges and how accessible and beautiful our Hawkes Bay region is.

3. Bring an Ultra marathon event to Hawkes Bay as there currently isn’t one and hasn’t been for some time.  This will in turn support local business.

4. Get more people active and involved in physical activity, promoting a healthy body, healthy mind concept.
