In Years 9 and 10 English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science And Physical Education/Health are compulsory.

Students are also asked to choose a further six subjects which may include Visual Art, Drama, Dance, Music, Technology (Materials, Processes, Design And Food), Graphic Design, Enterprise Studies, Environment Studies, French, Māori and Sports Studies.

In Years 11, 12 and 13 students work towards the New Zealand NCEA (National Certificate of Educational Achievement) levels 1, 2 or 3. NCEA is a robust qualification recognised by employers and universities worldwide.

No subjects are compulsory but to gain NCEA level 1 students must study and achieve in English and Mathematics. To gain New Zealand University Entrance, students must achieve NCEA level 2. including English at level 2.

* Aviation studies is taught in conjunction with Gliding Wairarapa. Students learn aviation law, aircraft types, aviation career paths and the principles and physics of flight. Practical flying skills are taught in the gliders an airfield close to the college by a college teacher was is also a Gliding Wairarapa’s Chief Flying Instructor. Students will work towards the National Certificate in Aviation Level 2. This qualification can be the first step to a career in aviation!
