Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Wananga Whare Tapere O Takitimu is a natural development of Te Kohanga Reo o Te Wananga Whare Tapere O Takitimu and together with the initiator of the vision, Te Wananga Whare Tapere O Takitimu which is the tertiary component, a form of seamless education is offered that is uniquely Māori.

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori O Te Wananga Whare Tapere O Takitimu began on 26th January 1995 as an attached school to Te Kura Kaupapa Māori O Wairarapa but was gazetted on 20 July 1995 as Te Kura Kaupapa Māori O Te Wananga Whare Tapere O Takitimu, to be officially operative as from 1 January 1996.

The mission statement of the Kura is "to provide an education that allows each mokopuna to reach his / her full potential socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally in an environment that affirms his / her Māori identity by the acknowledgement, respect and continual use of the Māori language, knowledge, processes and structures."

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori O Te Wananga Whare Tapere O Takitimu is a "special nature school" which porvides an exciting education that is guided by Te Aho Matua, an education philosophy embodied within the Māori language and custom supported and enhanced by whanau values.

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori O Te Wananga Whare Tapere O Takitimu and it's whanau are delighted to be in a position to provide an education that is unique to that of the mainstream system, thus using the Māori language, customs and values as a foundation to facilitate knowledge within a user friendly environment.
