TEAM’S SHOW JUMPING COMPETITION
“ABEL TASMAN SHIELD”
Rules and Regulations: Run under current NZPCA General regulations, ESNZ SJ & SH Rules.
1. The Form of the Competition
a) The competition will take the form of five (2014) show jumping competitions which must include at least:
• one AM5
• The Jig Saw with the Host Committee to select from this list of remaining classes:
• Show Hunter,
• Table C
• Derby
• Two Phase
• Top Score
• Gamblers Stakes.(Take Your Own Line round - removed 2014).
b) The competition runs over two days.
c) It will be held for Clubs without branches and Branches in the M.N.W.C. Area and teams from neighboring Area’s that the Host Committee wishes to invite.
2. Where & When
a) The competition is to be held annually at a time stipulated by the Host Committee within reason.
b) Host Clubs/Branches are to be appointed 2 years in advance at the delegates meeting.The delegate’s meeting is to be held annually during the competition where matters pertaining to the competition can be aired. Each Branch or Club without Branches is to be represented by two delegates each to have one vote.
c) All competition and rule changes must be in remit form and be passed at the Delegates meeting, and after approval, must lay on the table for one year and be put up for ratification at the next year’s Delegates meeting
.3. Trophies & Prize Money
a) The winning team will receive sashes, product/prize money (if enough sponsorship or funds) sourced by the Host Committee
b) The highest placed Marlborough Nelson West Coast Team will be awarded the ABEL TASMAN SHIELD.
c) The Dale Scrivens Memorial Trophy to be awarded for Horsemastership.
d) Only teams from the Marlborough Nelson West Coast Area are eligible for these trophies.
e) Rosettes/sashes/medals will be paid for by the host committee and awarded from 1st - 6th placed Teams overall.
f) Ribbons/rosettes will be awarded to 4th (2013) place to individuals in the respective.
4. Entries for the Competition
a) All entries shall be made by Clubs, Branches or invited teams, by a date notified by the host committee.
b) ADOPTION OF “AGE REMOVAL” – MNWC Area AGM May 2018Heights can be jumped by any rider 24 years and under (vs 1.4 – July 2019)
Riders are encouraged to ride within the ‘historic age groupings BUT new rulings (vs. 1.3 adopted 2018) allow ‘any rider to jump the height they are ‘capable of riding at’ for
this Teams competition.
Historically – 95cm Senior: 24 years and under
Historically – 80cm Intermediate: 16 years and unde
rHistorically – 65cm Junior: 13 years and under
c) All riders are restricted to one mount which can be either a hack or pony.
d) Teams are to consist of up to six riders, ideally 2 riders in each height group. A team of less than six must have a minimum of four riders. Club/branch teams that have less than 2 riders in any height are able to add their own club/branch riders in another height to bring team members to 6. E.g.: 1x95cm, 2x80cm, 3x65cm.
e) A club or branch may borrow a maximum of 2 riders from another branch or club to make up a team, providing it does not have other riding members available. Likewise, a Club/Branch can loan riders. At time of nomination and confirmation advice, the host Committee may place additional riders into teams.
f) Any spare or draft Riders names (that either are unable to compete in their own Club/Branch Team) can be included on the Team Entry form and are to be signed off by their own DC. The Spare/Draft Riders names will go into a pool for the Host club to manage. These riders can indicate which Club Team they would ‘prefer’ to ride for and that will be taken into consideration by the Host committee when assigning them to a Team.
g) Individuals may be permitted to ride at the discretion of the organising committee.
h) All riders/mount combinations must be financial members of their Clubs and have fulfilled the minimum Working rally requirement as per current NZPCA Working rallies regulations. and must have been a member of the Club for a period of 90 days prior the first day of the competition.
i) New members or new combinations require the Club’s DC signature to ensure they are a safe and capable combination at the height they intend to ride at.
j) The host Committee will decide the number of teams they can reasonably handle, and 2nd 3rd or 4th teams may be subject to ballot.
k) Each Club/Team is to provide helpers for gate keeping, marshaling, picking up poles and to assist with the course changes. Names to be supplied with entry form in space provided.
5. Jump Heights
a) Maximum first round heights Riders to be 24 years & under – ages to be taken @ 1 August preceding the event. (Vs 1.4) Riders are encouraged to ride in the historical age brackets but not essential too.
JUMP Height of 95cm - Historically was “Senior.”
JUMP Height of 80cm - Historically was “Intermediate."
JUMP Height of 65cm - Historically was “Junior.”
6. Team Entry Fee:
a) The entry fee shall be set in consultation with Area Committee and the Host Club/committee.
b) A minimal nonrefundable, team nomination fee is to be requested by the Host Club/committee – this is separate from the Team Entry Fee. The nomination fee is to confirm Team intentions to compete.
c) Team Entry Fee is to be set at an amount that allows for the Host Club/committee to run the event without incurring any debt. To be reviewed and discussed at the events Delegate Meeting/Area AGM annually.
d) The host committee has the right to refuse late entries.
7. Team Uniforms
a) Teams can wear costumes and dress up to a theme that a team might find appropriate but must still wear Club or Branch uniform.
b) At the host Committee’s discretion, be mounted for the prize presentation.
c) While mounted all riders wear Regulation Helmets (Yellow Tag)
d) Team must be named so it is clearly obvious which club they are riding for.
8. Scoring
a) Points are awarded for individual placing’s in each of the five competitions as follows:
i. 1st 10 points
ii. 2nd 9 points
iii. 3rd 8 points and so on down to 10th 1 point.
b) The scores to count are, the best score, one from each height and one other score, a total of 4 scores will count, from each event will be counted for team points.
c) Each clear round is worth one point to the team total.
d) A rider who is eliminated in one class may continue to compete and gain points for their team in the remaining classes of the competition. All classes are run according to the NZPCA & ESNZ Rules unless otherwise stated here.
e) In the Event of a Tie for Overall Placing’s the team with the Most First Placing’s will be deemed to have gained the Highest Place. If teams are still tied, then the team with the most second placing will be deemed to have gained the highest place and so on till a result is achieved.
9. Judges, Appeal Committee
a) ESNZ List Judges - 1 per ring appointed by the Host Committee.
b) The Appeal Committee will comprise of the Chief Judge, who will be the President, and two others, preferably from the previous host committee but outside the current organising committee. Must be appointed before competition starts and have no connections with a team.
c) All protests (run under ESNZ) must be in the hands of the Secretary within 30 minutes of completion of the class along with the protest fee currently $30.00.Team rider Protests may only be lodged by TEAM MANAGERS
d) The Appeal Committee decision is final.Event
Delegate Meeting at each Event: (vs 1.4 - 2019)
• A meeting will be held at each event for Team Representatives to discuss the event, air any concerns, suggest ideas for future events.
• Minutes will be taken from these Delegate meetings and presented to MNWC Area committee for consideration on any changes requested, or results on any new changes being trialled.
• TEAM RIDERS REP: Each team is encouraged to have one of their senior aged riders to attend this Delegates meeting, so Event organisers/Area Committee can hear ‘the rider’s voices’ for matters pertaining to the Abel Tasman event for future events.

The Jigsaw Competition - Refer to Article 270.3 ESNZ Rules page 69.
For this competition.
Riders that don’t have a team partner will be matched up with a rider from another team (of the same age group) also without a team partner. Their scores to count towards their respective teams. Any riders still without a partner after this process (and there can only be one from each age group) will be assigned a partner from a team that has completed their Team round, the rider that rides twice will accrue no point for their second round.
