About Us

The MG Car Club Canterbury Centre has its roots in the original 'MG Car Club of New Zealand', formed in 1952 when many of the country's motorsport enthusiasts drove our favourite marque in the shape of TCs, TAs, Ps and Js.

From those early beginnings the NZ Club has devolved into four major Centres, two in the North Island and two in the South.  Each of these Centres is autonomous, organising competitive and social events for members within its regions. Like the 'Crusaders' our region includes Nelson, Marlborough and the West Coast as well as Canterbury. There are also a range of inter-Centre and national activities you are able to enjoy.  And of course, if you are visiting another region you will be most welcome to participate in any of their events, competitive or social.

Like most MG Clubs around the world we are affiliated to the MGCC UK ensuring access to badging, logos and so on.  We also maintain regular contact with a number of Centres in NZ, Australia, the US and the UK to help ensure we offer the best possible benefits and MG enjoyment for all of our members.

The Canterbury Centre publishes 'The Canterbury MaG' bi-monthly to keep you up to date with coming events, report on past happenings and to help you keep abreast of MG news, technical tips and other matters of MG interest.

We organise over forty events throughout the year.  These range from the serious to the not at all serious, competitive and social, ensuring there is something for every motoring taste.  They include 'ClubSport' Speed Meetings at Ruapuna that include a mix of autocross and sprints, Motokhanas, Trials, Fun Runs, Social Runs, Concours, Picnics, formal and not so formal Dinners, Lunches and even a Breakfast or two.  And for those long weekends involving a statutory holiday, there is usually an opportunity to visit some other interesting part of our region in the company of like minded MG friends.

In addition to all these activities there is a regular monthly Club night at the Richmond Club in Christchurch, on the first Friday of every month except January.  This includes a noggin 'n natter, dinner and usually, a speaker.

The Club proudly offers a comprehensive range of regalia featuring marque and club logos, we also maintain a small stock of spares for older MGs but more importantly can provide the knowledge or contacts for all your MG needs.    If you are already involved in a restoration or contemplating one there are a significant number of members who have "been there done that" so there is plenty of helpful advice available to those who are simply willing to ask.

There you have it! A brief outline of what the club can do for you.  But of course we all know the more you put in the more you get back.  So come along to the next Club night or event. Say "Hi we're new members" and be prepared for a whole new, enjoyable - maybe, even life changing - experience with the Marque of Friendship.
