Year 1 to 8 Netball Competitions

futureFERNS Year 1 & 2, 3 & 4
The Year 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 futureFERNS programme is delivered in Term 1 and Term 4 for a total of six weeks per term. The programme runs on Saturdays with rounds starting from 9am.
- Teams need to enter separately for Term 1 and Term 4.
- All teams must supply their own "Star Helper"/Coach for the duration of the programme.
- Sections in 2024: Year 1 & 2 Learning to play, Year 1 & 2 Developing, Year 2 Understanding, Year 3 & 4 Learning to play, Year 3 & 4 Developing, Year 3 & 4 Understanding. we have changed our sections slightly to try & ensure we are able to group teams of similar ability for the six week programme. Learn to play = very first engagement with the netball programme, developing = have had some experience/ability can catch, pass, move, understanding = confident in abilities & able to catch, pass, move with little instruction.
- Team fees: $180 per team (please talk to your school about individual player payments in a school team).
- Individual fee: $45 (if your school does not have a team registered, paid direct to NHV).
futureFERNS Year 5 & 6
The Year 5 & 6 programme is delivered in Term 2 & 3 on Monday nights, with rounds starting from 4pm.
- Teams must have their own coach and umpire for the duration of the season.
- Coaches are encouraged to attend the FUNdamental workshops to assist in your development & understanding of netball specific movement skills & technical aspects of the game.
- Umpires must attend the schools umpire training delivered by the Hutt Valley Netball Umpires Association. Umpires must be confident in calling obstruction, contact, stepping.
- Sections in 2024: year 5 only (high, medium, low), year 6 only (high, medium, low), year 5&6 mixed (high, medium, low)
- Team fees: $410 per team (please talk to your school about individual player payments in a school team).
- No individual registrations are taken for this grade. If your school is not entering a team please email [email protected] and we will do our best to accommodate your participation.
- PRIZEGIVING: all year 5&6 participants will receive their certificates at prizegiving (schools will be notified ahead of time).
futureFERNS Year 7 & 8
The Year 7 & 8 programme is delivered in Term 2 & 3 on Saturdays, with rounds starting from 8.30am.
- Teams must have their own coach and umpire for the duration of the season.
- Teams are to supply their own uniform, bibs and ball (size 5).
- Teams must supply their own scorer who will use My Netball Manager app to score. Scorers from both teams are to stand together for the duration of the match.
- Coaches are encouraged to attend the NHV FUNdamental workshops to assist in your development & understanding of netball specific movement skills & technical aspects of the game.
- Umpires are encouraged to attend the schools umpire training delivered by the Hutt Valley Netball Umpires Association.
- Section 1 = high ability, section 5 - 9 = medium ability, section 10 - 14 = new to netball/ developing.
- Team fees: $455 per team (please talk to your school about individual player payments in a school team).
- No individual registrations are taken for this grade. If your school is not entering a team please email [email protected] and we will do our best to accommodate your participation.
- PRIZEGIVING: Year 7&8 Round 1 & Round 2 Winners will receive their certificates & trophies at prizegiving (schools will be notified ahead of time).
Year 7&8 McDonald's Hutt Valley Intermediate Challenge Match: The top two school teams in year 7&8 will play the annual challenge match on Senior Finals Day in 2024.
