Based out of the Tepid baths (affectionately known as The Teps) in downtown Auckland the club was coached by Monique Rodahl. It burst onto the Masters swimming scene with a hiss and a roar. The serious training was held Monday, Wednesday and Fridays morning.

The more informal stuff came in the way of the monthly club swim meetings, an event which usually included relays and races, depending on what level of effort members wanted on the day!  On some occasions, other masters club would join the TOGGS team for a bit of fun. As the membership grew the club day was soon increased to fortnightly and then weekly.

The club was very active with masters swimming events, which it became involved with from June 1989. It quickly became a force to be reckoned with at swimming meets, especially in the relay events. Club records show good participation and also excellent results from those attending. One particularly good result was the 2001 Nationals in Hamilton, where 29 individual first places were recorded, ten of which we New Zealand records, ten 2nd places and five 3rd places. There were also two 1st places, a 2nd and a 3rd place in relay events. A pretty good effort for 11 swimmers!

Another member of the swim meet teams was the TOGGS mascot, the green frog. Sitting on the starting block the frog would proudly spur on the TOGGS relay teams and put fear into the opposition.

In August 1990 the club sent a 7- strong team to the World Masters in Rio de Janeiro, which was the largest NZ representation. Here's an extract from the newsletter following this event:

"At all the world champs they present gold, silver and bronze plus they give medals to the top ten. As expected Antoinette (Rodahl) won Gold. THREE, in fact, she also won bronze and another top ten medal. Our Marita (Hassall) also won 5 top ten medals. Both Julian (Reynolds) and I (Vince Barnao) picked up two top ten (medals) each.  Our over 160 years mixed freestyle relay team of Antoinette, Marita, Nigel (Atkins) and Julian came 8th in the world and broke a New Zealand record. The over 160 years mixed medley relay of Antoinette, Marita, Julian and Vince also came 8th"
