POOMSAE

Poomsae is a series of movements for offensive and defensive techniques in accordance with fixed patterns. Poomsae has the merits, by its practice, to enhance the Kyorugi techniques.

Poomsae is not for demonstration. Poomsae is the established pattern focused on standardized motions which every Taekwondo athlete should follow in universal situations. Poomsae is a training method and its elements are skills; the skills of fighting.

Poomsae is a set of fighting techniques developed through history, experience and the accumulated wisdom of the ancients. Poomsae is acting in relation to the opponent developing good fighting skills.

The World Taekwondo Federation has 8 colored belt forms. The colored belt forms are all numbered one to eight and are called Taegeuk. "Taegeuk represents the Oriental philosophical views on the world, cosmos and life."

The World Taekwondo Federation has 9 advance forms. These advance forms are for black belt student and competitors.

POOMSAE CLASSES

New Plymouth Taekwondo holds two dedicated sessions for Poomsae whereby students can gain clarity and instructions on how to improve their Poomsae Performance.  The Poomsae class on Saturdays is open to both Juniors and Seniors. Mahala Beasley is the instructor responisble for the delivery of these sessions.

The Junior cclass has the extra session to learn about creative Poomsae with the hope of progressing into a demonstration style class which involves, poomsae, music, dance and board breaking.
