Our New Rider Training sessions are held every Tuesday from 4:30–5:15 pm, right before Club Night throughout the BMX season. These sessions are the perfect place to start your riding journey. Perfect for Striders, Sprockets and first-time riders, these fun and supportive sessions teach the fundamentals of BMX racing, build confidence on the track, and prepare riders for Club Nights—all at their own pace.
Tuesday | 4:30–5:15 pm
Check-in: From 4:15 pm
Cost: $15 per rider, per session (includes bike and helmet hire if required)
These sessions are a great opportunity to try BMX, helping new riders build confidence, learn the basics, and prepare for Club Nights in a fun, supportive environment.
Riders attending New Rider Training should already be confident riding a pedal bike and able to complete 3–4 straights independently, without assistance.
All riders must be signed off by a coach before using the start ramp, including the half ramp.
Knee and elbow pads are mandatory for all Sprocket riders
For the safety of all participants and to allow riders to get the most out of their session, the track is closed to general riding during club-organised New Rider Training.
After training, riders are welcome to stay and join our Club Night racing. For Strider riders (balance bikes) and riders who aren’t yet confident going off the ramp, we run four motos between 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm.
After their races, we encourage these riders and their families to relax in the viewing area next to the canteen, enjoy some dinner or snacks, and watch the main racing.
New riders can attend their first three Club Nights for free, without needing to purchase a BMX NZ licence or North Harbour BMX membership. It’s a great way to experience BMX, learn how Club Nights work, and see if racing is right for you — with no commitment required!
After three Club Nights, riders who wish to continue racing will need to purchase a BMX NZ licence and North Harbour BMX membership, in accordance with BMXNZ requirements
