Steven Upfold, our General Manager Football has accepted a role as GM, Volleyball NZ.
After 14 years dedicated to football and futsal at regional and national level in communications, development and management roles, it’s time for a new opportunity.
“It’s been a real privilege to work on behalf of the clubs and volunteers in our game - but after starting at Auckland Football back in 2007, it’s time for a fresh challenge,” said Steven.
“It’s also been an honour to work with the AFF and NRF team. Their dedication and hard work, always aiming to deliver the best outcomes for our members, has always inspired me. It’s an exciting time for this game, I’ve loved being part of it and will enjoy following what’s next.”
“We’re sorry to see Steven leave the NRF whānau, but wish him the very best for his next challenge. I’ve so appreciated his clear thinking, calm problem solving and deep football knowledge in our time working together. Football’s loss is very much volleyball’s gain,” said NRF CEO Laura Menzies.
In his time at Auckland Football Federation, Steven delivered a Strategic Plan reset and team alignment, then steered AFF into the Un-incorporated Joint Venture with Northern Football Federation, helping create the structure and operational framework on the path to a full merger of the two Federations. He’s led the NRF area manager, competitions and development teams to deliver football and futsal in Northland and Auckland through the pandemic-affected 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Steven will finish with NRF at the end of October.
