Greenhithe Football Club Achieves New Zealand Football Xero Club Support Accreditation

Game changer for Greenhithe!

Greenhithe Football Club, run almost entirely by volunteers, has just earned accreditation through New Zealand Football’s Xero ‘Together Stronger’ Club Support Programme.

This recognises clubs that have demonstrated excellence across a range of areas, from financial management and governance to the creation of a safe and supportive environment for players and coaches.

The milestone reflects months of work strengthening how the club operates off the pitch. Greenhithe committee member Paul Geden, who spearheaded the project, explained it was driven by an awareness that community clubs need to evolve to survive.

“We realised that to remain a strong and sustainable club, we needed to be more robust in our approach to policies and roles,” he said. “The ‘Xero Together Stronger’ Programme helped accelerate a journey we had already begun.”

The club leaned on the programme’s structured approach, using templates and best-practice frameworks to formalise processes which previously relied on goodwill and institutional knowledge.

“The tools provided gave us a solid starting point,” Geden said. “It meant faster decision-making and a more streamlined process overall.”

Gaining accreditation ensures the club is acknowledged as well-organised and professionally run, which benefits players, volunteers, committee members and the wider community.

“Good governance is just good business,” Geden said. “This accreditation ensures we have structures in place that will outlast any individual and support the club’s long-term success.”

That long-term thinking is at the heart of the club’s approach. With governance frameworks in place, focus is shifting to the future, from growth plans over the next decade to improving the experience for participants at every level. With major shifts happening across the football landscape, adaptability will be key.

“There’s a lot of change happening all at once,” Geden said. “Building stronger relationships with organisations like Northern Region Football will be essential to ensure these changes benefit the game at all levels.”

The new Whole of Football 2.0 framework has created opportunities as well as increased demands on facilities and volunteers. But Greenhithe Football Club is relishing the challenge. It is excited by the launch of its local hub model for Fun Footballers in grades eight and nine, working with other Harbour clubs to provide gameday experiences.

Greenhithe Football Club president Kerrin Thomson is delighted by the accreditation and excited about what comes next. He paid tribute to Geden’s dedication to the project, which is “hugely appreciated by all.”

“Now it’s about delivering exceptional football experiences for our community,” he added.

Greenhithe Football Club has received a free defibrillator and equipment pack from New Zealand Football to mark its achievement as Northern Region Football’s 10th accredited club.
