GEAR CHECK
At the start of each mounted Rally, we all gather at the Clubrooms for notices and gear check. The main aim of gear checking is to ensure everyone has safe and correctly fitting gear and is turned out to a good standard for Pony Club, which is expected.  

We give a score out of 5 for Gear, Horse and Rider turnout. Specifically we are looking for the following:

GEAR
BRIDLE
Correctly fitted noseband, browband and throatlash (see Manual 1 pg 83)
All stitching sound
Reins not too long so that the riders foot could get caught
Clean and correct size of bit
SADDLE
Clean and well oiled saddle (if synthetic then well cleaned)
No wear and tear on folds and/or stitching
Girth straps stitching sound
Girth correct length with room for adjustment
Stirrup leathers clean, sound stitching and even length
Stirrup irons correct size (see Manual 1 page 77)
Saddle cloth suitable size and pulled up under gullet of saddle
MARTINGALE (if applicable)
Correctly fitted (see Manual 1 page 184-186)
HORSE
Clean and well groomed
Mane and tail well groomed and free of tangles
Hooves oiled and picked out
Clean dock
No loose shoes, risen clenches
If barefoot - well trimmed hooves
Corner of the mouth - no rubs or cracks

RIDER
Full, correct uniform including hair net and no jewellery 
Tidy and well presented

ESNZ compliant Helmet with a red tag 
Has adult present at Pony Club if 14 years old and under 
Good manners!
