Sporting Opportunities

We belong to Upper Valley Primary School Sports Association (UVPSSA) which oversees interschool primary school sport within Upper Hutt. Our students trial for school teams and can compete in a number of interschool sports like Cricket, Cross Country, Danish Rounders, Football, Basketball, Netball and Swimming.

  •  HAVE A GO CRICKET TOURNAMENT 

The Upper Hutt Primary Schools Sports Association “Have a Go Cricket Tournament” is being held on Tuesday 12th September.

This event is open to all interested Year 4-6 students for selection into our team entries, however as this is a Have a Go tournament we will be prioritising non-cricket players in team selection if numbers are high.

2022 Swimming Trials

REGISTRATIONS OF INTEREST FOR COMPETITIVE SWIMMING TRIALS
We are running competitive swimming trials on Tuesday 24th May to select our school team to take to the Interschool Swimming Competition on 9th June. Students will meet at school and then we will travel down to H20 Extreme to participate in trials. We need parental transport to help take students down and support at the event. Please let me know if you can help in any way.


TIME: Thursday 8th April - 9.00 - 10.30am
VENUE:H20 Extreme, Fergusson Drive
COST: No cost - school will cover cost of pool hire
COMPETENCE: Each trialist must be able to swim 25m confidently and be competent in deep water. Trials will be timed and team selections based on results.


EVENTS
Year 4 - 25m Freestyle and 25m Backstroke
Year 5 & 6 - 25m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle
Open 25 Butterfly
As this is a qualifier for the UVPSSA Swimming Sports on Thursday 9th June, if you cannot make this date please do not trial.

Teeball / Softball Festival 2021

The Upper Hutt Primary Schools Sports Association “Teeball / Softball Festival” is being held on Tuesday 14th September (with a PP day on Thursday 16th September), at Whakatiki Park and our school is keen to offer our students the opportunity to play in this Festival.

This event is open to all interested students for selection into our team entries, however we can only enter two teams per age group so spaces are limited.

Grades we can enter teams into are:

~ Year 1/2 Teeball
~ Year 3/4 Teeball
~ Year 5/6 Modified Softball

Depending on registrations of interest and adult volunteers. 8-10 players per team. General playing equipment will be provided – except fielding gloves. Participants are welcome to bring a glove if they have one, but it is not essential.

Have a Go Cricket Tournament 2021

The Upper Hutt Primary Schools Sports Association “Have a Go Cricket Tournament” is being held on Wednesday 8th September (with a PP day on Thursday 9th September), at Maidstone Turf and our school is keen to offer our students the opportunity to play in this Tournament. 

This event is open to all interested Senior Syndicate students for selection into our team entries, however as this is a Have a Go tournament we will be prioritising non-cricket players in team selection if numbers are high. 

We can only enter 4 teams of 8 students across the Senior Syndicate, as well as a Year 5/6 Girls only team and a Year 3/4 Girls only team (Girls competition only if numbers allow). These are depending on registrations of interest and adult volunteers. 

Tournament is an 8-aside non-stop cricket format with 8 players per team.

Floorball

Calling all Floorball Registrations!  We couldn’t get enough for a team in Term 1 so let's see if we can for Term 3!  The competition starts on Monday 16th August and runs for fourteen weeks (13th Dec).

Season: Term 3 & 4 2021

Dates:  Monday 16th Aug - Mon 13th December
Venue:  The Professionals Recreation Hall
Years:  Year 3/4  & Year 5/6 teams
Cost:   $45 per player - minimum team of 6

Grades are Year 3/4, Year 5/6 (4-aside - one goalie and three players).  The games are played at the Professionals Recreation Hall in Upper Hutt From 4pm, are 2x10 min halves, and gear is provided.

Interschool Swimming Results

Wow what an amazing day and experience for our 11 school swimmers today. The STAR behaviour and team support you all showed was impeccable and that included our parents and supporters! Many thanks to Jacobs mum Pam who was a timekeeper all day 🙂


Congratulations to:
* Ash who came 1st in the Y6 Boys 25m Breastroke
* Neihana who can 3rd in the Y4 Boys 25m Freestyle
* Archie who came 3rd in the Y5 Boys 50m Freestyle! 


So close for Alex who was .5 sec off 3rd for both the Y6 50m and 25m Freestyle, and our Jumbo relay team who placed 2nd in their Heat but just missed the final!


Congratulations to all our swimmers who swam today - it was wonderful to support you and watch you all compete!

Venue: Oxford Park, Ebdentown (not school grounds)

Run Coach: Michael Du Toit, Junior Division Coach at Trentham United Harriers & Walkers Club - multiple time Wellington representative in Cross Country, Road and Track.

Cost: Free

Registration Details: Anyone aged 8yrs - 10yrs (approx Years 4 - 6), Younger Students (Y1-Y3) are welcome to attend, however are required to have an Adult runner with them or be a current member of a Harriers Club.   Max of 25 runners. This is aimed at everyone from new runners to those who want to improve their running and performance.

NB: Parents/Caregivers are responsible for their own children at these sessions and will need to transport and supervise their children as they see fit during this Run group. As a school, we offer support with Tania Lister being
there at each session, however we will not be Staffing or supervising students at this Run Group. Parents will be responsible for ensuring their children get to school after Run Group.

Run and Become - ROUND THE BAYS

We are delighted to inform you that this year Oxford Crescent School will be part of Brendan Foot Supersite Round the Bays 2021 through the Sport Wellington Run and Become project.

What:  Round the Bays 6.5km Walk/Jog/Run
When:  Sunday 21 February 2021

What does the Run and Become project offer?
● FREE registration for your child (Age 8-11 and in Year 3-5) and one guardian
● FREE transport from school to the event
● FREE community transport after the event on bus/rail
● A medal for each child
● Water and a banana at the finish line
● Starting at Frank Kitts Park and ending at Kilbirnie Park with plenty of recreation activities for you and your child such as: music, food stalls, face painting, trampolines, all kinds of games, bubbles, a family and kids’ recovery and a Run and Become celebration zone.
● 12 INSCHOOL SPORT LEADER opportunities including a Sport Leadership Workshop run by Sport Wellington
● Physical Activity Opportunities at school and other Sport Wellington Events

REGISTRATIONS OF INTEREST FOR DANISH ROUNDERS TOURNAMENT 

Information for the Upper Hutt Primary Schools Sports Association Danish Rounders Tournament  2020 have been sent out however are available on the right hand side with other documents.

  • Tuesday 20th October (with a PP day on Thursday 22nd October)
  • Trentham Memorial Park   


Students will travel down to the courts by bus, leaving school at 9.00am (tbc).  All students taking part will be provided with a school t-shirt to wear the day prior to the tournament. We will meet in the school hall at 8.50am.

This event is open to all interested Year 5/6  Senior Syndicate students for selection into our team entries, however as numbers are limited to 60 we will be prioritising Year 6 players in team selection if numbers are high.
