Grades and game days

Grades are sorted by school year (note, the new Nursery offering applies to pre-school only).

The majority of teams play on Saturday mornings (specific times and locations available on MyRugby app), including Nursery.

Three Rippa grades play on Friday nights. These are Year 3/4, Year 5/6, and Year 7-8 (note, Nursery, Year 1 and 2 Rippa all play on Saturday mornings).

Weight limits

Year 7/8 players are required to be weighed as part of the Wellington Rugby Football Union (WRFU) official weigh-in process that occurs on Club Day in April.

WRFU provide a weights and grading chart here if you’re after the detail, but rest assured we’ll work with you to ensure your children are playing rugby with others of similar age, weight and ability in the safest environment possible.

How teams are pulled together and when we'll let you know what the teams look like

Teams are carefully put together, with convenors, the Club Captain and Chair all involved to ensure outcomes that balance a number of key objectives. These objectives include continuation of last year's cohorts, reducing logistical challenges, balancing numbers and consideration of parent and caregiver requests.

Regarding parent requests, please note we will do our best to consider these but may not be able to entertain each one. Regardless, we will communicate our decisions and rationale related to any parent/caregive request.

We are aiming to have players allocated to teams before the end of March and either the grade convenor or coach will be in touch once we have a good idea of what this looks like.

Gear

We loan players jerseys for the season, but you'll need to organise shorts, socks, boots and a mouthguard if you haven’t already.

Club Day

Our annual Club Day is likely to be in April, but we'll communicate this closer to the time. Here you can:

·      Formally weigh your players for tackle grades

·      Receive final confirmation of teams and meet the coaches

·      Receive jerseys

·      Let the kids loose on some fun activities

·      Donate any quality rugby gear you no longer need, which we'll offer to any families who need support. Please note, no judgment for anyone returning a jersey from last season... if you've got one, just let us know as we really need them.

IMPORTANT: If the registered player is new to the Paraparaumu Junior Rugby Club in 2024, please bring a copy of the players Birth Certificate or Passport as identification.

It makes things easy for everyone if you can prioritise attending this day, but if you simply can’t make it then the grade convenor or coach will be in touch.
