Types of rugby offered

PJRC offers three types of rugby: Nursery, Rippa and Tackle.

Nursery is a new offering for 2024, which aims to provide pre-schoolers with rugby skills before they hit the Rippa grades in Years 1 and 2.

Nursery details are still being worked out, but will take place on Saturday mornings.

Rippa is a game for all rugby players. It's non-contact, easy to play and fun for everyone with plenty of tries! It promotes excellent ball handling and running skills, and with rip belts around the waist, introduces players to where they should be aiming to tackle should they choose to play that type of rugby in future.

Rippa caters to all ages. Rippa games are played on Saturday mornings for Y1 and Y2 and on Friday Nights for all other grades.

Tackle rugby is what the Black Ferns and All Blacks play! For juniors, the rules are adjusted at different grades to maximise player safety and optimise skills development.

Tackle is offered from Year 3 up and is played on Saturday mornings.
