Race 1: Feb 24. Race 2: Mar 9. Race 3: Mar 23. Race 4: Apr 6. Race 5: Apr 20.

Entry fees:

PCC members: $20 per Race, Series $100
Non-PCC Members: $25 per Race, Series $125

  1. Rules:
    1. The Regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing. Class Safety Rules and Harbour Rules shall apply.
  2. Eligibility & Entry:
    1. The Race is open to all keelboats and mullet boats.
    2. Race Entry fee shall be received by the Ponsonby Cruising Club by 1800 hrs on Friday 16  February, 2024. Entries may be lodged on line at pcc.org.nz   
    3. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the race officer.
    4. Divisions and classes may be given separate starts and /or be scored separately.
  3. Race Schedule:
    1. Five races are scheduled to be sailed.
    2. First start time 1200 hours
  4. Sailing Instructions: Will be posted prior to the first race.
  5. Racing Area and Courses:
    1. The racing area is the Waitemata Harbour and inner Gulf, starting off Westhaven. Printed courses and copies of the Special Sailing Instructions will be available prior to the first race. Each race will include windward leeward legs and a harbour course finishing off Westhaven. Course lengths will be 15 - 25 nautical miles approx. Race marks will be as indicated on the course sheet. Courses may be shortened.
  6. Scoring: Five races are scheduled to be sailed:
    1. If five races have been sailed 1 worst score will be dropped.
    2. Handicaps will be set at the discretion of the Handicapper based on current              available race handicaps.
    3. Races may be scored as a single fleet and /or in accordance with divisions and classes.
  7. Prize Giving and Prizes: Join us at the Club after racing for refreshments & prizes.

All are welcome to join us in the Club after Racing.The Bar will be open & snacks will be served.

1.0 Rules:

1.1  Races will be governed by the 'rules' as defined in “The Racing Rules of Sailing”

1.2 The YNZ Safety Regulations, Class Safety Rules and Auckland Council Harbour Bylaws shall apply.

a. Boats shall at all times observe the Auckland Council Navigation Safety bylaws in particular “The Moving Prohibited zone”.

b. Boats shall observe all Fairway Marks, Obstructions and Restricted Areas as defined on the Course sheet.

1.3 Should there be any conflict between the Notice of Race (NOR) and these Sailing Instructions (SIs), the SIs shall prevail.


2.0   Eligibility and entry:  Shall be in accordance with the Notice of Race.


3.0 Notices to Competitors

2.1 Notices to competitors will be posted on the PCC Club Website.


4.0 Changes to Sailing Instructions

3.1 Any change to the Sailing Instructions will be posted before 0800 hours on the day it will take effect, except that any change to the Schedule of Races will be posted by 2100 hours on the day before it will take effect.


5.0 Signals Made Ashore - No signals will be made ashore.


6.0 Schedule of Races:

Race 1: Feb 24. Race 2: Mar 9. Race 3: Mar 23. Race 4: Apr 6. Race 5: Apr 20.

  1. Five races are scheduled to be sailed.
  2. Start time – First Start 1200 hours
  3. Divisions and classes may be given separate starts and /or be scored separately.
  4. If separate Division start times are allocated boats will be notified of their division and start time prior to the start of the first race.

7. Racing Area and Courses:

The race area, courses to be sailed and rounding marks are as shown on the Course Sheet - See below

8. The Start:

       8.1 The start line will be between the mast flying an orange flag on the moored vessel at the starboard end and  the outer distance mark at the port end.

       8.2 Races will be started in accordance with Rule 26.

9. Class Flags & Warning signals:

            The Warning signal Division 1 is a white flag. The Warning signal Division 2 is a green flag

10. The Finish: The Finish will be as defined on the courses sheet and between West Haven Tower & ODM 1

11. Time Limit:

The target time for the first boat to finish is 3 hours. The time limit for the first boat to finish shall be 3.5

hours from the start time. The finish window after the first boat finishes will be 60 minutes.

Boats failing to finish within the finish window will be given a line placing in accordance with their placing at the last mark rounded.A handicap placing will not be allocated.


12.  Shortening Course:

The course may be shortened at any mark of the course in accordance with PCC General Sailing Instructions No. 12. Boats shall finish as signalled at the rounding mark either:

  •   At that rounding mark – by signalling S over Blue or
  •   At the designated finish line as shown on the course sheet by signalling S over H at a rounding Mark. Boats shall finish at the designated finish from the direction of that rounding mark.   

The decision to shorten course will be at the Race Officer’s discretion.

13 Protests

       Boats wishing to Protest will notify the race office within 1 hour of that boat’s finishing time.

All protests must be lodged with the Race Officer in writing within 90 minutes of the protesting boats’finishing times.


14. Scoring:

  1. Five races are scheduled to be sailed in the Series:
    • The Low Points Scoring system shall apply.
    • If five races have been sailed 1 worst score will be dropped.
    • Handicaps will be set at the discretion of the Handicapper based on current available race handicaps.
    • Races will be scored as a single fleet and /or in accordance with divisions and classes.   

15. Prize Giving & Prizes:

Join us at the Club after racing on each race for refreshments & prizes.

Prizes to be allocated for Line & Handicap Places & for the EVOLUSION Series


16. Disclaimer


The Ponsonby Cruising Club Inc. and its sponsors disclaim any and every responsibility for damage that might occur to persons and property both on shore and on the water as a consequence of participating in any way in the race covered by these Sailing Instructions.

The decision to start or to continue to race shall be the sole responsibility of the Skipper concerned.

                Harbour Courses: 4S SERIES – 2024

The start Line: Will be between a mast displaying an orange flag on the Committee Boat at the Port end and the ODM at the Starboard end.

The Finish Line: Will be between the Westhaven Tower and the Yellow ODM 1.

The Marks:

Start Buoy:        Red Spherical Buoy

Laid Mark 1:      Yellow Tetrahedral Buoy

Laid Mark 2:      Red Tetrahedral Buoy

The Warning Signals:

          Division 1: A White Flag

          Division 2: A Green Flag

The number of course to be sailed will be displayed on white board on Committee Boat.
