Pukekohe Amateur Athletic & Harrier Club

IS CLUB NIGHT ON IF IT'S RAINING?

Because there is not an all weather track, there are a few times during the season where we have to cancel due to the weather. A notice to cancel will be put on the website and Facebook by 5pm on club night.

CAN WE COME AND TRY IT OUT BEFORE REGISTERING?

From the start of the season we run 2 weeks of 'have a go' club nights and you can come along and try out the events before you register. You can register and join at any time during the season, however only athletes who have registered will be elligible to gain points at club nights and compete at outside club events. Athletes are only entitled to attend the two have a go nights free of charge.

DO I HAVE TO COMPETE IN ALL EVENTS AT CLUB NIGHT?

No you don't, however we encourage all the athletes to attempt everything. You only get better at events you are not good at by participating more frequently. We also do not encourage children to specialise in events at an early age and taking part in all events helps them to develop a broad base of athletic skills. Our club night programme and point system is set up for athletes to compete in all events.

DO I HAVE TO WEAR SHOES?

We encourage the tiny tots to run in barefeet, however you may wear shoes if you choose. Grade 10 upwards can compete in track spikes. Children in these grades who chose to run in barefeet need to be aware that they will be competing against others wearing spikes and we would recommend that they compete in running shoes. It is not compulsory to wear spikes.

WHEN DOES THE SEASON START AND FINISH?

Summer season starts on Tuesday 25nd October 2022 and runs every Tuesday night until we take a break over the Christmas period. The second half of the season will start at the beginning of February and finish at the end of March 2023.

WHAT DO THE PARENTS DO WHILE THE CHILDREN ARE COMPETING?

We require there to be a parent/caregiver to remain at the ground for the duration of club nights. You are responsible for the behaviour of your child. Every parent on the committee is a volunteer and we will require the help of parents to run a successful club night. This can be as simple as checking off names at an event or recording results. If we tap you on the shoulder and ask for help, please do so.
