Travel safe: together we look out for one another

At Rolleston College, we are proud of the way our learners show the Rolleston Spirit and uphold the values of E Tū Tāngata in their everyday lives. One area where this is especially important is in how we travel to and from school.

Whether you're walking, biking, scootering, or taking the car or bus, we all share the roads and footpaths. This means we all have a responsibility to look out for each other—to show respect, integrity, and kindness, not just at school, but on our journeys as well.

As members of the Rolleston College whānau, we are stronger together when we care about the safety of those around us. That means:

  • Drivers: Slow down near schools, watch for crossings, and always check for cyclists and pedestrians.

  • Cyclists and scooter riders: Wear your helmet, stay alert, and follow the road rules. Make sure you're visible, especially on dark mornings or afternoons.

  • Walkers: Use designated crossings, avoid distractions like phones, and make eye contact with drivers before crossing the road.

  • Everyone: Be patient, respectful, and encouraging—just like we would expect in the classroom.

E Tū Tāngata reminds us that everyone has value. No matter how you travel, your actions can make a big difference in helping others feel safe and valued. Let’s continue to uplift each other, look out for one another, and show that the Rolleston Spirit extends beyond the school gates.

Let’s arrive safe, travel smart, and support each other every step of the way.
