International Languages Week got underway on Tuesday 2 June with a visit from alumnus Lydia Hawes, who studied French for five years at Rolleston College.
Lydia is just finishing her bachelor's degree at the University of Canterbury, majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in French. She is excited to have been accepted onto a programme run by the French government, where she will work as a language assistant, teaching English in a French high school in Strasbourg for seven months.

Our senior students were impressed to learn about how you can combine a language with many other degrees. We are very proud of Lydia and hope she enjoys her time in France!
At lunchtime, Madame Mansfield baked madeleines, and we listed to some famous French songs and learnt a bit about the artists. Stay tuned for more International Languages Week news!
