Team/School Responsibilities

  1. Tournament entry forms must be completed and returned to the Tournament Manager by the due date with registration fee as stipulated. (Entries will not be processed without all requirements completed at time of receipt of same).
  2. No team’s entry to the tournament will be accepted without an Umpire listed as accompanying that team – this rule will be strictly adhered to.
  3. Umpires accompanying each team entered should be interested in umpiring and where possible be older school students and/or be involved in umpiring at school or centre level.
  4. Umpires’ accommodation is the team/school’s responsibility.
  5. Teams are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs and those of any accompanying umpire.
  6. Managers responsibilities include that the team has its own first aid kit and is conversant with tournament rules, is ready to play on time at an appointed court.

Tournament Rules

  • SISS Junior Netball Tournament is an event sanctioned by SSNZ.
  • The tournament is open to entries from SI schools wishing to enter:
    • Year 9A and 10A all girls’ teams
    • Rural schools or those with smaller roles with teams made up of composite Year 9 and Year 10 players
    • Teams made up of players from two or more schools made up of composite Year 9 and Year 10 players
    • Combined team of boys and girls in the respective age groups
    • Male only teams in the respective age groups
    • A minimum of two (2) Year 9 players must actively participating players in every game
    • Mixed teams of boys and girls in respective age groups may have up to three (3) male players in any one team. One male player per 1/3rd of the court at any one time.
    • Each team shall have at least one (1) adult official approved by the school who will be responsible for team discipline, travel and accommodation.

Any protest arising from a game must be lodged with the Appeals Committee (via the Tournament Manager) by officially named Team Management within 30 minutes of the end of the game.

Inconsistencies or concerns regarding game scores, will be dealt with if required via the usual process involving the game umpires, timekeepers/scorekeepers for the particular game and a member of the Management Committee.


Eligibility


To be eligible to play at the SISS Junior Netball Tournament a student must be:

  1. Enrolled as a bona fide student at the school of representation and studying at least 80% of a programme of the timetable provided by the school,
  2. Have a satisfactory attendance record at school,
  3. Students must be a regular Year 9 or Year 10 class member.
  4. All players at all times must reflect credit on their school. Any player who deviates from the normal accepted standard of behaviour both on and off court could be responsible for immediate suspension from their team. In such a case, the principal of the school concerned will be notified.

 Tournament Play


  1. Development of Umpires at all levels is promoted, therefore coaching of Umpires will be arranged with appointed Umpire Coaches prior to, during and following games.
  2. Games will be dual controlled.
  3. The Management Committee has the discretion to make minor amendments to the Draw as appropriate to prevent teams who meet regularly in local competition from being placed in the same section for round 1.
  4. In the event that a team withdraws late or insufficient teams have entered any grade; to make a workable draw the organising committee shall have the option of creating an invitation team from local school players. This team would have no tournament status and any teams playing against this invitation team would automatically be awarded 3 game points.
  5. Points =   Win = 5 points     Draw = 2 points      Loss of 3 goals or less = 1 point

In the event of a tie, section placings shall be determined by goal differential, i.e. total goals scored for, divided by total goals scored against.

If Grade finals result in a drawn game, title shall be shared.

Management Committee Responsibilities are to:

  1. Provide a consistent and orderly structure for organisation of the annual tournament
  2. Develop action plans and implement policies/rules that will assist promote and support netball at this level.
  3. Provide clear guidelines and review policies which relate to the annual SISS Junior Netball Tournament and the promotion of netball at this level.
  4. Instigate, monitor and manage further initiatives that may arise from the annual tournament.
  5. Act professionally to ensure the SISS Junior School Netball Tournament meets the requirements set by the NZ Secondary Schools Sports Council.
  6. Liaison and consultation with Netball Centres in the South Island, on any matters that require mutual consideration.
  7. Ensuring tournament continuity and that tournament policies and rules are implemented and followed.
  8. Ensuring all participating schools are fully informed on issues that arise so that informed decisions are able to be made within acceptable timeframes.
  9. Making decisions and act accordingly on matters pertaining to the administration of the SISS Junior Netball Tournament.
  10. Keep records of Grade winners.
  11. Arranging for the Draw to be completed in a fair and reasonable manner for all teams, with game time not exceeding 120 minutes of play per person per day.
  12. Organising all local centre administration for the annual tournament including arranging First Aid/Sports medical facilities and support.
  13. Meeting all the requirements necessary to successfully stage the SISS Junior Netball tournament in an environment that will foster healthy participation and achievement in secondary school netball.
  14. Being responsible for setting entry fees, issuing the entry form and collection of entry fees.
  15. Where possible, secure local sponsorship for promotion of the tournament
  16. Appointment of an Umpire Allocator who will be responsible for allocation of umpires to games as required.
  17. Appointment an Appeals Committee of which a member of the Management Committee is included.
