Day 3 – Sunday: Community, Connection, and a Fitting Jubilee Finale

Day 3 of the Southbridge Rugby Football Club 150th Jubilee brought the weekend to a warm and memorable close, celebrating the spirit of rugby, community, and the generations who have shaped SRFC.

The morning began with a highly anticipated Golden Oldies match, featuring players from the Southbridge Golden Oldies and others with strong connections to the club.  It was great to see former International Players and Fiji Sevens Stars playing in this game.  The game was played in true Golden Oldies fashion;   full of humour, camaraderie, and the unmistakable joy of rugby shared across generations.

Adding to the day’s programme was the competitive fixture between the local Women’s Southbridge Invitation Team and Springston Women's Team,  the club would like to thank these Women for the big part that they played in the day showcasing the strength, skill, and growing presence of women’s rugby within the wider Canterbury community. Their performances were met with enthusiastic support from the sidelines and added a vibrant energy to the final day of celebrations.

Following the matches, players, families, and supporters gathered once more in the Jubilee Marquee for a relaxed social afternoon. Catering was provided by Smokey Fish Bar‑Bee‑Q, whose outstanding food and service created the perfect atmosphere for guests to unwind, reconnect, and reflect on the weekend’s events.

The Sunday gathering offered a final chance for storytelling, laughter, and appreciation — a fitting conclusion to a weekend that honoured 150 years of Southbridge Rugby’s history, people, and enduring legacy.

Day 3 closed the Jubilee with warmth, pride, and community spirit, leaving everyone with memories that will be cherished for years to come.
