Thankyou for a Memorable Weekend

As the dust settles on an unforgettable weekend, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to every one of you who joined us for the Southbridge Rugby Football Club 150th Jubilee. The stories, the laughter, the reunions, and the sheer energy you brought made this milestone one to remember. Many of us were still recovering days later, and still reminiscing, which says everything about the spirit you all brought to the celebration.

Across the weekend we welcomed 350 people on Friday night, and on Saturday we hosted and catered a delicious meal for 400 guests, on Sunday a huge attended during the day and the marquee was full once again in the evening for the last hoorah. It was a privilege to celebrate this historic occasion with so many of you. Given the sheer scale of the event, it wasn’t always possible to catch up with everyone — our apologies if we missed you along the way.

Quite simply, this Jubilee would not have got off the ground without your support. Your contributions helped us honour 150 years of rugby, community, and shared history in a way that truly reflected the heart of Southbridge.

A special mention must go to Suburban Eatery & Social Platter Co for their outstanding catering;  the Ellesmere Lions for their exceptional bar support;  Southbridge Home and School for providing security during the events and overnight. Your professionalism and quality helped elevate the entire weekend.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to our guest speakers — Dan Carter, Waisale Serevi, Wayne Smith, Andy Ellis, and Pip Love. Your speeches were inspirational, and it was fabulous hearing about your journeys and the experiences that shaped you.
Thank you also to Mathew Cooper (NZRU President) and Mike Lay (CRU Chairman) for their valued presence and the insightful speeches they shared with us.  Grateful thanks to Leslie Greenslade (ERSU) for being present with us on this special occasion.  Your presence as representatives of our Greatest Game, your support added immense mana to the occasion.

We would also sincerely like to thank Michael Sheat, for being the 'glue' that held the event together.  Michael was an outstanding MC and possibly should think about his future career.

Thank you to everyone who supported the SRFC 150th Merchandise Shop, whether online or in person over the weekend. Your enthusiasm and purchases have generated $30,000 for the club;  an incredible contribution.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to our auctioneer, Maddo Taylor, who played an important role in auctioneering a range of incredible items. Your energy, humour, and professionalism helped raise an impressive amount of money for the club. We are truly grateful for your contribution to the success of the evening.

To our incredible teams of volunteers;  thank you. From setup to pack‑down and everything in between, your hard work often happens behind the scenes, but it is absolutely crucial to an event of this scale. We are deeply grateful for the time, energy, and care you gave.

The 150th Committee would also like to acknowledge and thank all those who have sent in their kind words, congratulations, and support of this memorable occasion. Your messages have meant a great deal to the team who worked so hard to bring this celebration to life.
