Senior Player Code of Conduct

Senior players set the standard for Southbridge Rugby Football Club. Your behaviour reflects you, your team, and our club — on the field, in the clubrooms, and in the community. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all senior players representing SRFC.

1. Respect & Behaviour

  • Treat referees, opponents, teammates, coaches, managers, volunteers, and supporters with respect at all times.

  • Accept decisions made by match officials without argument or abuse.

  • Use positive, appropriate language — abusive, loud, or coarse behaviour is not acceptable.

  • Show respect for all individuals regardless of gender, ability, background, or belief.

  • Remember that younger players and supporters look up to you; your behaviour influences our club culture.

2. Commitment & Responsibility

  • Attend trainings, games, and team events. If unavailable or running late, notify your coach or manager early.

  • Arrive prepared — physically, mentally, and with the correct gear.

  • Pay subscriptions and any team‑related fees promptly.

  • Support club activities, events, and fundraising efforts where possible.

  • Take responsibility for your performance and contribute positively to team outcomes.

3. How We Play the Game

  • Play hard, play fair, and always within the laws of rugby.

  • Compete with intensity while maintaining respect for opponents.

  • Prioritise teamwork — put the team’s goals ahead of individual ambitions.

  • Acknowledge good play from both your team and the opposition.

  • Keep winning and losing in perspective; behave with dignity in all circumstances.

4. Leadership & Role Modelling

  • Lead by example on and off the field.

  • Support coaches and managers in creating a disciplined, enjoyable, and respectful environment.

  • Encourage and mentor junior players — they are the future of SRFC.

  • Demonstrate SRFC values: teamwork, respect, pride, and community.

5. Health, Safety & Wellbeing

  • Maintain personal fitness and prepare responsibly for training and games.

  • Avoid behaviour that risks injury to yourself or others.

  • Alcohol or drug use must never impact your ability to train, play, or represent the club.

  • Senior players must not consume alcohol while wearing club uniform at junior events or in any role‑model capacity.

  • Seek support if you have wellbeing concerns — SRFC encourages open communication and player welfare.

6. Clubrooms & Community Conduct

  • Respect club facilities, equipment, and the volunteers who maintain them.

  • Behave responsibly in the clubrooms and at all SRFC events.

  • Support a positive, inclusive, and welcoming environment for members, families, and visitors.

  • Represent SRFC with pride in the wider community.

7. Breaches of the Code

Breaches may result in:

  • A warning

  • Removal from training or matchday squads

  • Suspension from club activities

  • Referral to Ellesmere Rugby Sub‑Union or NZ Rugby All matters are handled in line with SRFC’s Complaints Process.
