Have a Go Days

We are running two Have A Go sessions.  These are intended to give children, who have never played water polo before, a chance to try out the sport, or help existing year 3 children transition from the Learners Pool into the deeper water of the Main Pool. The Draw

The draw is finalised at the start of Term 1.  Please include any dates in your team registration form of any dates your team(s) are unable to play (due to things like, camp, ski trips, kapa haka, etc).  Where possible, we will try to assign that game slot as a bye in the draw, however, where we are unable to do this, the team who is unable to play will be considered as having defaulted and will receive zero points for the round - the other team will win by default and receive two points for that round.

Please use the [email protected] email address to notify when teams are unable to play due to unforeseen circumstances during the competition - the sooner the better please.  If a team needs to default, the person in charge of the team should notify [email protected] immediately.  Where a team defaults, we will try to arrange another team to play against the other team, or arrange someone to take the team through some ball drills.

The draw and points table are available on the Southland Water Polo website - www.southlandwaterpolo.co.nz.

Duty

This competition would not run without the volunteer help from parents and schools.  This year, 2023, we are extremely short of help.  To assist, all schools in the Year 4-6 grade are required to carry out table duty. Schools rostered on table duty must provide enough people to run the clock for all games slots on their rostered day, take the score and complete the score sheet. It is the teacher in charge's responsibility to ensure there are enough people to do duty. Failure to turn up for duty will result in teams docked points, fined or possibly removed from the competition. A roster for Term 1, Term 3 and Term 4 will be sent out to all schools once registrations have closed 17 Feb 2023.

Referees

We are always looking for more referees and 2023 even more so.  If you or any parent of player is interested in learning to referee games, please email [email protected]. You will receive training and mentoring in this role.

Cost

$260 per team entry - full competition fee invoiced term 1 and payment due in Term 1.  Teams registered in term 1 are expected to play in term 3 and term 4, as games in all three terms determine the final results.

Finally, a massive thank you to all the volunteers, parent help and schools, who help to run this competition each year - this competition would not run without your assistance and 2023 is no different - iIf you have any parents who would like to assist on Fridays, please email [email protected]?  Any questions with above, please email [email protected]

Many thanks for your continued support,

Southland Water Polo Board
