Code of Conduct- Parents and Spectators


Southland Water Polo is committed to creating a positive and enjoyable environment for all participants, including players, coaches, officials, and spectators. As parents and spectators, your conduct plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and spirit of the sport. We expect everyone to adhere to the following Code of Conduct to ensure a respectful and supportive atmosphere.

1. Respect for Others

● Treat all participants, including players, coaches, officials, and other spectators, with respect and courtesy.

● Avoid negative comments, derogatory language, or gestures towards anyone involved in the game.

● Remember that water polo is a team sport, and positive encouragement benefits everyone.

2. Supportive Behaviour

● Support all participants regardless of the outcome of the game.

● Encourage fair play and good sportsmanship.

● Avoid excessive cheering or behaviour that may distract players or officials.

3. Safety First

● Follow all safety guidelines and instructions provided by Southland Water Polo and the location any events are held within.

● Refrain from any behaviour that could compromise the safety of players, officials, or other spectators.

4. Respect for Facilities

● Respect the facilities and equipment provided by Southland Water Polo.

● Dispose of trash appropriately and encourage others to do the same.

5. Conflict Resolution

● If you have concerns or disagreements, address them through the proper channels, such as team officials or Southland Water Polo representatives.

● Avoid confrontations and disruptive behaviour during games or events.

6. Compliance with Policies

● Respect decisions made by officials and organizers.

7. Positive Role Modelling

● Demonstrate good sportsmanship and fair play through your actions.

● Be a positive role model for all participants, especially young athletes.

8. Privacy and Dignity

● Respect the privacy and dignity of all individuals, including players, coaches, and officials.

● Refrain from engaging in gossip or spreading rumours.

9. Alcohol and Substance Use

● Do not consume alcohol or use substances that may impair judgment during games or events.

10. Continuous Improvement

● Stay informed about water polo rules, strategies, and sportsmanship to enhance your understanding and enjoyment of the game.

● Encourage a culture of continuous improvement and learning among players and fellow parents.
