Dargaville’s Path to Healthier Living
In Dargaville, many residents are looking for ways to improve their health and wellbeing but feel unsure about where to begin. To meet this need, Sport Northland runs the Green Prescription programme, a practical initiative that supports people in making sustainable healthy lifestyle changes.
Natalie, one of our Healthy Lifestyle Support staff member, schedules regular clinics at the Dargaville Medical Centre, creating a welcoming space where participants can discuss their healthy lifestyle challenges and goals. These sessions are informal but purposeful, focusing on personalised guidance rather than one-size-fits-all solutions.

Natalie reflects on working with one Dargaville based participant:
“Alex attended a clinic after realising the desire to become more active and learn about nutrition. I listened carefully to Alex’s aspirations and provided tailored resources: information about local activity providers, free gym and pool trial passes, and strategies for managing chronic pain and staying motivated. I emphasised that progress does not require dramatic changes — small, consistent steps that can be built on, often leads to lasting improvements.
I continued to check in with Alex monthly, for 4 months, offering encouragement and accountability. Over time, Alex reported feeling more energetic, confident, and engaged in their wellness journey.”
As more residents embrace healthier habits, Dargaville is beginning to see a collective transformation. The Green Prescription programme, supported by Natalie’s passion, becomes a catalyst for positive change, showing how community-driven initiatives make a real difference in people’s lives. Would you like to become more active, and understand more about nutrition but not sure where to start? Green Prescription could be the kick start you need to achieve a sustainable healthy active lifestyle.
ANother option is to pop into Dargaville Medical Centre or call for an appointment with the lovely Hayley who can assist with managing different health conditions and making healthy lifestyle changes. Hayley can also refer you on to the Green Prescription Programme!
A message from Hayley follows:
“Health coach visits are free to patients who are enrolled at Dargaville Medical Centre which can be a self-referral – it doesn’t need to come from a GP. Reception staff are happy to book you in!
On Tuesdays at 9:30am, a group of enrolled patients and I go for a Wellness Walk, to engage in some gentle exercise and connection! I do need to have an initial appointment with participants first to discuss and complete the consent form before taking part in the walk.”
At Sport Northland we exist to enrich Northlander’s lives by inspiring and enabling more movement and one of the ways we do this is through Green Prescription – supporting people on their journey. If you would like some support with your activity goals, give us a call on 0800 ACTIVE … we are here to help.
