Background/Whakapapa

These awards have been developed to recognise and celebrate the bright stars who volunteer in the play, active recreation and sport space in Te Tai Tokerau. Volunteers are often the heart and backbone of making play, active recreation and sport happen and this is an opportunity to recognise them for their community service.

Nominations for the Awards are due by 26 May 2024.

Awards

The award recognises no one ‘winner’ and is more of an opportunity for people/groups/organisations to recognise those bright stars who volunteer and contribute so much to the play, active recreation and sport space. Whether they are a coach, committee member, caretaker, deliverer, official etc. if they are one of those people who is a bright star in your club/organisation/group that deserves recognition then this opportunity is a great way to say ‘thanks’ and let everyone know about all the great work they do.

Nominations should highlight how long they have been volunteering, what they have contributed and any other details about them that makes them special.

Nominators of the Award will need to answer:

  • How long has the person been involved in their role/s? (This could be over a number of roles. Example 1: Started as a coach in 2010, got involved as team manager from 2012-2015, was a committee member from 2017 – 2021 or Example 2: Began as walking group member 2018, became the leader in 2020, now sets all the walks, maintains the website, does the promotion etc).
  • Why do they deserve to receive this award?
  • Any other relevant and helpful information about the person that helps build a picture of why they deserve to be recognised (testimonies, articles, videos etc are all welcome to support the nomination)
