Moveable Programme
The Moveable programme teaches fundamental movement skills to young people with physical, intellectual and sensory impairments aged from 5 to 21.

The programme is held in New Plymouth's Gymnastica Gym Club every Friday morning during term time and are divided into three sessions. Participants attend one session only depending on their age and impairment.

Each session has a specific skill focus with activities to help practice the skill. In addition to learning physical motor skills the programme helps develop social skills as the young people interact.

Each session includes a warm up to music followed by a circuit, then cool down. Sessions last approximately 45 minutes and most children will need a one-on-one support person with them at each lesson.

Skills covered

  • Gymnastics, aerobics, running, climbing, hanging, skipping, hopping, swinging, jumping, bouncing, dancing, balancing, walking and circuits.
  • Ball skills include catching, passing, rolling and throwing.
