It is really helpful if some people come early to club night and help set up.
We will go through any notices first and then children will be taken for a warm up before being split into age groups.
Parent help is required on events. Please help – we will show you what to do. It’s very rewarding being involved. There are coaching and officials courses available for teenagers and adults to do, which give you lots of confidence.
Colgate Games:
Colgate Games is a huge 3-day athletic event that is held in the North & South Island.
This event is open to Athletes in Grade 7 - 14 throughout New Zealand.
Children are allowed to participate in up to 5 events, plus relays.
Cost to enter this competition is $6 per event; relay entries will be paid for by the Club. Entry forms will be available very soon.
Athletes and families make their own travel and accommodation arrangements for these events. Families often base their summer holiday around attending the Games in different parts of the country.
While at the track for the 3 days athletes will be supported by our Team Managers (if you are interested in this role please see Robyn).
Our managers are responsible for making sure athletes arrive for the opening ceremony, warm up correctly, checking them into the Track & Field Marshall tents, they eat and drink properly, warm down, have the correct uniform etc.
Ribbon Days:
Ribbon Days are where children compete against other athletes from clubs around the Manawatu /Whanganui region. They attend and compete against other children in their age groups 7yrs -14yrs of age. (Grade 6 can often sneak in too at some ribbon days.)
Ribbon days usually start at 10am, with entries taken on the day from 9.30am. Athletes must be in club uniform and wear their age flash to be able to compete.
Athletes are allowed to do as many events as they want to on the day. Cost is $5.00 for the day
Junior Interclub Events:
This is a new initiative, where athletes from all the different clubs in our Manawatu-Whanganui Centre, travel to one particular Club Night. This will give a greater variety of competition for everyone who attends these. We will put the dates and venues on our club calendar.
Teams Champs and Centre Champs:
Teams Champs is for all clubs from around the Manawatu /Whanganui area. Athletes are aged 7 -14yrs.
This is a team event where each competitor earns points that then go towards their club. Club Champs are run at the same time, with medals given in each event. There will be a shield up for grabs to the club that gains the most points overall and also a shield for the March Past will be awarded.
These two events are combined into one. Cost is $10.00 for the day.
Club Uniform:
Our club uniform can be hired out for the season at a cost of $20.00 per athlete.
We will also do 1-day hire for $5 for those who are not sure how often they will compete.
Uniforms will be available over the next few Mondays.
Committee:
If you are interested in joining our committee please speak with Robyn.
**We desperately need a new Club Treasurer. It’s not a huge job but is very important.
We meet very informally to organize club nights, upcoming events, fundraising, etc.
We are only a small committee and would love to have some new faces on board.
Many hands make light work!
Our next committee meeting will be advertised at Club nights and by e-mail.
Training Squads:
Times are found on our website and our Facebook page. The number of sessions an athlete attends depends on a number of factors, including their age, their aspirations, and their other commitments.
Training Times: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays: 5.30 – 6.30pm. Saturdays: 10.00 – 11.30am. Starts 19th October.
Other training sessions can be arranged if necessary. Please talk with Robyn Wills for all coaching queries.
Training for some individuals might start during Spring School Holidays especially if training for NZ Secondary Schools Track and Field Champs.
