In May 2018 Softball NZ changed the national age-grade tournament of Under 19 to Under 18, in line with the change made at the WBSC (World Baseball Softball Confederation) meeting in Paris in April 2018.

For the 2022-2023 season the age-grade was returned to U19.

2022
A U19 Girls South Island Open regional tournament for club based teams was held from 20-23 January 2022 at Mizuno Ballpark, Christchurch.

2021
Due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, the U18 Girlss national championship was been cancelled.
A regional tournament for club based teams was held from 28-31 January 2021 at Ellis Park, Dunedin.
