EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURES


St Mary’s College, Wellington – Evacuation of students after an incident

Procedures for evacuation following a global incident that affects every area of Wellington

Students will remain until collected by a parent or nominated adult. A register will be kept as students and the person collecting the student sign out.

  • Rolls will be taken to establish the location of every student and staff member. These paper rolls will be passed on to a designated reception/welfare centre.
  • The school will remain open and students will be catered for until they are collected and signed out – this means food, shelter and comfort/welfare.
  • Where practical parents will be updated via texting, email, Facebook, the school webpage, radio and the school app
  • If the event does not compromise the school buildings they will be occupied until such time as students are collected.
  • If buildings are compromised emergency shelters will be erected.
  • Control of the school community and school environment remains with the Principal until instructed by outside agencies
  • If the school is instructed by outside agencies to evacuate the school site, we will follow their instructions and where practical parents will be informed

  • Senior students can make own way once they have signed out at reception as to their proposed course of action. Can stay at school till collected.

  • If student cannot be collected or released into a nominated person’s care then they must remain at school till collected.
