Labour Weekend 2-4-2 Tournament

This tournament was held yesterday and today in brilliant weather on superb greens.

Many thanks are conveyed to our sponsor Brandon Beveridge of Mitre 10, Jamie Hoult for his organisation of the tournament and to all those involved in the catering, the bar and preparing the greens on both days.

After qualifying matches were played yesterday the field was split into two divisions today.

Results after qualifying were as follows;

Div 1:

1st: John Hanton & MIke Carter - 3W 30 ends 73 pts

2nd: Ray Goldsmid & Don Ambrose - 3W 25 ends 58 pts

3rd: John Orbell & Mary Orbell - 2.5W 26 ends 43 pts

Div 2:

1st: Graeme Oldham & Steve Delaney - 3.5W 26 ends 59 pts

2nd: Dave Shaw & Elena Ulguia - 3W 28 ends 58 pts

3rd: Jamie Hoult & Ian Benbow - 2.5W 22 ends 43 pts

Some very tired bodies are heading home after having played 8 matches over the two days.

Hi to all our members,

As some of you will already be aware, Lloyd & Rhonda Bellis are leaving the sunshine of Nelson to be closer to their family in Christchurch, and will be moving there at the end of November.

The club will be hosting a farewell evening at the club on Friday 13th November commencing at 5.00pm.

We know you will want to join us in wishing both Lloyd and Rhonda all the very best for their future in Canterbury, and even tell a few stories from day's gone by.

Turf Hotel Women's Invitational Stoke Stakes

A great weekend of some excellent bowls, but after two days of qualifying, it came down to the finals today. After some tight matches in the quaters and semi finals it came down to the final with Amy McIlroy and Tayla Bruce against Linda Ralph and Karen Hema. Amy and Tayla got off to a fast start but Linda and Karen kept in the fight. It came down to the last end and Amy and Tayla had enough of a lead to end up 16-14 winners of the Stoke Stakes for 2026 congratulations to you both, you played some very consistant bowls all weekend.

A big thank to the players, the Turf Hotel and NPI, and all the rink sponsors for their continued support for this event. Huge acknowledgement to Nicky, Kirsten and the team for making this event happen, Glen and the greens crew, Lyn and her team in the kitchen, Greg, Gary, John and the team looking after the bar, Jamie, Gary for looking after the competition, Brian and Jan for umpiring all weekend, and all the other helpers that contribute for a great weekend of bowls.

Club Championship Fours Results

These are posted under Championship Draw-Results.

The first of the Club Championships were played over the weekend with weather conditions giving a bit of everything, but it turned out lovely late on Sunday afternoon. Especially for our winning players.

Congratulations to the following teams:-

Women's Four of Elena Ulugia, Trish Campbell, Janis Reynolds and Triona Wilkinson.

• Memberships fees, these are required to be paid by 30th September in order to play any Club Champs or competitions after that date.
