Coaches in attendence
All Year Groups: Sachin Jayawardena will be returning for a fourth season with the club as Junior Head Coach and Director of Cricket. He will be playing for Taradale CC Premiers. Sachins talent was on show last season which saw him take out a number of the clubs awards for 2025-26:
- Premier Batter (most runs)
- Premier Bowler (most wickets)
- Premier All rounder
- Premier Players player
- Best Bowling Performance for Seniors
- Premier Century scored - 140* against Havelock North CC
- Senior Cricketer of the Year
Sachin is former Sri Lanka Under-19 squad member (2014) and Sri Lankan U23 'best all-rounder' (2015/16) recipient. Sachin is a top order batsman, left arm orthodox spin who has played a number of first class matches. Sachin holds a UKCC Level 2 and NZC Level 2 coaching qualification. He is very positive, patient and hard working coach who focuses on enjoyment and what the child is good at to get the best out of players.
Sachin is looking forward to further building on the club's successes from the 2025-26 season. He has an outstanding rapport with all of our juniors and we are looking forward to welcoming him back.
Other Club Coaches:
Sean Davies is returning for another season. He will be there with Sachin for Year 4 & Year 5 on Monday and Year 8 and 9/10 on Tuesday with an assistant coach. Sean is NZC Level 2, former international cricketer for Zimbabwe who is a highly experienced coach, coaching professionally in the UK for 15 years and here in Hawke's Bay since 2015. Sean is high energy, very passionate about developing boys and girls cricket in Hawke's Bay. We are very delighted to have secured Sean services for a eleventh term.
Year 11-13 Grades: Training will be with Senior grades on a Wednesday (Div 2 & 3) or Thursday (Premier & Div 1). Highly experienced players in attendance will happily provide guidance.
Sachin Jayawardena will be there on Tuesdays and Thursday with the Premier team should you need any guidance.
Notes
Year 3 to Year 6 Girls Smash. A programme for girls to enjoy cricket in a low pressure inclusive setting -see Girls Smash tab for more details
Year 2 to Year 4 Super Smash Cricket programme. This is for boys and girls new to cricket or very little cricket experience -- see Super Smash Cricket tab for more details.
Year 4/5 is a transition from soft ball to hard ball cricket.
Year 6 and above is hard ball cricket.
Year 9/10 grades
Pre Xmas only. Club practices October to December + January camp coaching. No club practices from February. This is due to players commitments with their High School Colts training and games post Xmas.
