Rangitāne o Wairau
Rangitāne o Wairau are descendants of the Kurahaupō waka and have lived in Te Tauihu o Te Waka-a-Māui for many generations since the arrival of their tūpuna in the sixteenth century. As tangata whenua of the Wairau region, Rangitāne maintain deep whakapapa connections to the whenua, awa, moana, and neighbouring Kurahaupō iwi.
Their rohe extends across Wairau, the Marlborough Sounds, Nelson Lakes, and Whakatū, reflecting a rich history of settlement, trade, resilience, and kaitiakitanga.
Today, Te Rūnanga a Rangitāne o Wairau continues to represent and advocate for iwi members while protecting the cultural, environmental, social, and economic wellbeing of present and future generations.
