POLICES & PROCDURES

RULES OF PLAY

All games participated in by the Club shall be played according to the rules of Selwyn Netball Centre & Netball New Zealand.

REGISTRATION FORMS

All of our players, coaches, managers and officials must complete the club registration form.  Players will be unable to take the court if the form has not been completed.

Any late registrations must be advised to the TNC committee via email no later than the Monday of the week you wish to play, and a registration form will need to be completed.  Where the player requires a uniform, this must be handed back to the coach or team manager at the end of the required game.  If the player returns to the team on a regular basis, then a portion of the subs will be charged, or a fee of $10 per game.

This will be discussed with the player and the TNC treasurer.

Registrations forms can be found here: https://www.sporty.co.nz/viewform/153377

UNIFORMS

All players will be provided with a playing uniform for the season.

This uniform will consist of a dress or top and skirt or shorts, a jacket and if applicable a team bag depending on the grade you play.  These items remain the property of Templeton Netball Club and are only to be worn on club game days or outings that have been agreed upon by the Executive Committee.

All items of the uniform must be freshly laundered before being returned to the Club on uniform collection day. If the uniform is considered to have been subjected to undue wear and tear or is deemed to be unable to be reissued, the cost of any repair/replacement will be at the players’ expense, and they will be advised of the exact cost once the repair/replacement is finalised. Failure to pay any monies due to the club before the end of the club’s relevant season will mean the player is no longer a financial member of the club and therefore can no longer play for TNC or be transferred to another club.

PLAYER TRANSFERS

Players who have played for a differed club within the Selwyn competition must be cleared to play prior to the season starting.  A clearance form will be submitted to the previous club on your behalf and players will be cleared to play when signed by both clubs and returned to Selwyn Netball Centre.

Clearance forms for players who have outstanding fees, fines or unreturned uniforms will not be signed by the former club until all the outstanding items have been paid/returned. Therefore, this player will not be able to take the court for TNC until such time as this has been resolved.

TROPHIES

All trophies remain the property of Templeton Netball Club.

The cost of any engraving will be at the expense of the club

Club trophies are awarded at the end of the year Prize Giving and will be held by the recipient until they are advised by the club via email that the trophies need to be returned.  Any miniature trophies awarded with club trophies can be kept by the recipient.

If any recipient is leaving the area permanently to reside in another city, the trophy should be returned to the club prior to the recipient’s departure.

TEAM SELECTIONS/TRIALS

Selection Criteria for Senior and Primary teams. Players are expected to:

  • Be registered by completing a registration form.
  • Be a fully financial member by the due date specified by TNC (this includes subs, uniform bond, registration fee).
  • Be available for training and competition games throughout the season.
  • Complete any umpiring duties when asked by your team coach or manager.
  • Maintain your own fitness in addition to trainings.
  • Play in a higher TNC team, if required, due to absences or injury.
  • Abide by TNC policies and procedures.
  • Abide by Selwyn Netball Centre policies and procedures.
  • Act in a fair and reasonable manner when representing TNC and also show good sportsmanship.
  • Participate in club fundraising unless you have elected the “opt out” option at time of registration.
  • If you require dispensation from one or more trial dates you acknowledge that you may be placed in a lower team and that this decision will be at the selector’s/Executive Committees discretion and no further discussion regarding the decision will be entered into.

Year 5 & 6

Players will not be required to trial as this is a non-competitive 6 aside format and players will rotate throughout all centre, attack and defense positions.  Players will be grouped into teams based on age, and previous netball experience - information that is captured via the registration form.

Year 7 and 8

Players will attend the primary trials (if required) with the focus on fun and developing skills.  Players will be placed in an appropriate team based on age, previous netball experience and skill level that is viewed at the trials.

Trial format, non-attendance and selectors information can be found following the Senior section.

Seniors (Year 9 and above)

Players will attend the senior trials (if required) and will be selected for teams based on, and not limited to, players’ previous netball experience.

Selectors will consider team dynamics, balance and skill levels.

Teams will most likely feature a variety of combinations to cover unlikely events of sickness, injury or availability.

The selection criteria are based on the following core attributes:

Movement & Spacing, Catching & Throwing, Attack & Defense, Decision Making & Reading Play, Positional, Fitness and Attitude.

Previous netball experience may be taken into consideration where necessary.

Trial Format

All trialists must arrive prior to the time that trials are due to commence.  A group warm-up will be taken by a member of the TNC staff/senior member of club.  The games will be approximately 8-10 minutes in duration, and we will attempt to trial all players in their preferred positions first.  Every attempt will be made to have all players play at least 2x10 minutes of court time at the first trial.  In some cases, players may be asked to play out of the position, or where selectors may see potential for players in different positions.  Games will be officiated by appropriately qualified umpires.

Selectors

A panel of 2 or 3 selectors will be chosen at the discretion of the Templeton Netball Clubs’ Executive Committee, including at least one independent selector, and one selector who the committee deems to be familiar with the majority of our players. Other selectors may include TNC coaches and/or committee members.

No players are to approach any of the Selectors during the trials.

If you have any questions, please see one of the TNC staff who is not on the selection panel.

Non-Attendance

We expect that all trialists will attend both trial dates, however we do appreciate that there may be reasons that you are unable to attend due to sickness, injury or unforeseen circumstances.  In these cases, you must email templetonnetball@gmail.com and give at least 24 hours’ notice if you are unable to attend a trial date.  Failure to do so may result in the player being placed in a lower team, which will be at the discretion of the Selectors/TNC Executive Committee.

Once trials are completed, TNC will attempt to notify players of their team placements within one (1) week of the final trial date.  Players will be asked to read and accept their placement by a due date.  Once all team placements have been accepted, the team lists will then be published on our website.

PREFORMED TEAMS

Please note that Selwyn have specified that pre-formed teams can only be entered into the Masters or Social grades for the 2025 season.  Any players wishing to play in Prem or Senior grades must attend TNC trials and make themselves available for selection.

Pre-Formed Teams must:

  • Notify the club they wish to enter a pre-formed team prior to player registrations each year.
  • Complete a player registration form and any necessary transfer forms for each team member.
  • Provide their own Coach(es) and/or Manager(s).
  • Provide their own umpire(s) capable of umpiring in the grade in which they are playing and notify the umpire convenor of their umpire(s).
  • Be active club members and abide by the player criteria mentioned under team selection.
  • Advise TNC Secretary the name and any necessary contact details of their primary contact for the team.  Any queries with regard to the team will be directed to this person.

As we are such a small club, we may ask members of any pre-formed teams to assist us at trials in order to make up teams that can compete against each other.  These players will be identified in some way, so the selectors are aware that they are not available for team selection.  These players may still be invited by selectors to play for other TNC teams.

Prior to commencement of grading at Selwyn Netball Centre, pre-formed teams may need to play grading games against any other club selected or any other pre-formed teams that the committee sees fit in order to decide the correct letter order when naming teams.

DISPUTES

Any issues or concerns that relate to your on court or team experience should be discussed with your coach in the first instance.  If you are unable to come to a resolution please contact the Club Captain who will endeavour to assist you.  Our executive committee will only be involved if resolution can still not be reached.
