Overview Safety Rules


If you have any queries then please feel free to contact any member of the Executive.  Keep an eye on any notices/reminders/events posted.

It is important for you to respect the following safety rules. If you don’t your membership could be cancelled, with no refund of fees possible.

  • Don’t remove any equipment from Tunui without completing the booking schedule or consulting the Club Executive members.
  • Non-Club members are not permitted to use the Club equipment without prior agreement by the Club Executive.
  • Whanau days, corporate team building exercises and the like require prior agreement of the Club Executive.


Treat all equipment with respect and care. Check it before you take it out and when you get back.

  • When night time or dusk paddling, have a suitable 360-degree white light in place on board the waka. Lash one of these onto one of the kiato of the waka. Please replace the batteries if they aren’t working.
  • Take one bailer on board for a W1 and W2 craft, two bailers for W6 craft  and four bailers for W12 craft
  • Have a cellphone or a walkie talkie type radio and a safety bag on each waka used
  • Lash the waka properly
  • All paddlers should wear a life jacket.  There should be one lifejacket or buoyancy aide per individual.
  • There is a first aid box and toolbox in the storage area. Use them but please replace materials used.
  • Please report all damage to the Club Executive and complete form (under Documents).
  • Please keep the storage area clean and tidy.  Ensure all equipment is secure after use.  Keep the Club shed locked.
  • Please support the Club's kaupapa by adhering to the above safety rules.
  • Members are also encouraged to participate and support Club activities.
