The Waikato Junior Secondary Schools Championships is the flagship competition for Junior Secondary School athletes (Year 9 & 10). With divisions catering for all ability levels, the competition also provides seeding for the North Island Secondary Schools Championships.

Division 1 & 2 Protocols
As part of our ongoing mission to raise the level of play, all teams competing in Division 1 & 2 will be required to provide locally qualified referees at a minimum.
It is therefore a requirement for all teams in Division 1 & 2 to have numbered uniforms and be able to complete scoresheet and be understand the match protocols.
Roll on, Roll off
All matches operate on a strict roll-on, roll-off schedule. Teams must be ready to begin warm-ups immediately after the previous match.
Uniforms
Teams must wear matching, fully numbered uniforms (back and front). No exceptions.
Warm Up Protocol
Hitting warm-ups begin five minutes after the previous match and consist of four minutes’ separate net time per team.
Duties
Scoresheets are required for all Division 1 and 2 matches. Senior referees will be available to provide guidance and ensure match protocols are followed, but teams remain responsible for completing their own duties.
Results
Best of three sets: 25, 25 and 15 points. All sets must be won by two points.
Substitution Rule
Teams may make up to 12 substitutions per set. Each player may enter the court up to three times, including the starting rotation.
Libero Rule
No liberos permitted in the Waikato Junior Championships.
Double Contact Rule
A double contact is permitted during a single attempt to play the ball on your own side of the net. A double contact that sends the ball over the net is a fault.
Positional Rule
The serving team does not need to be in the correct positioning. However, the correct server in the rotation is required.
Screening Rule
Screening of the serving team is not permitted. Players must remain stationary, keep their hands below head height and leave clear spacing between players.

Division 1 & 2: Games are played Best of 3 sets (25, 25, 15) with 1.15 hour timeslots
Division 3, 4 & 5: Games are played to time with 30 - 40 minute timeslots.
