Players as young as 3 and up to 9 years of age are able to have fun while developing basic softball fundamentals.
All U5, U7 and U9 games are played each Saturday morning at Starling Park, situated on Glen Road, Ranui. There is no travelling to other clubs as we run an 'in-house' module - the only one in West Auckland!
If you're interested in finding out more then come down to Te Poi Starling Park on Saturday morning during softball season and have a walk around. There will be lots of games taking place and you'll get a feel for how it works. After that contact our juniors co-ordinator and we will try and find a team for you.
What is Tee Ball & Rookie Ball?
They are cut-down versions of softball and baseball that have a focus on fun. Typically scores are not kept in a game and many of the rules from the senior games are not enforced. Both are played at Starling Park on Saturday mornings.
Tee ball players hit the ball off a tee, whereas rookie ball players have the ball lobbed to them by their coach. Generally rookie ball is for kids who are eight and over. Kids who are age 9 and above, who have developed solid fundamental skills and are ready to play softball proper should consider joining the U11 Juniors.
What Equipment do I need?
Pretty much just a glove. Tee ball gloves can be bought from most sports stores (e.g. Rebel) or a specialist softball shop like The Dugout. And shorts and shoes that are suitable for running in. Team shirts are provided, as are bats, balls and catcher's equipment.
What are the time commitments?
Set aside up to 1 1/2 hours each Saturday morning for game day. And allow for at least one training a week in the afternoons, usually about an hour.
How long does the season run?
It changes slightly from year to year, but generally the softball season runs from Labour Weekend through to about Easter. There is a break over Christmas.
How much does it cost?
