Coach Resources

The resources below are provided to help you in your WHS coaching journey.

These include the WHS Vision for Sport, the WHS Values and how they are manifest in Sport, and links to Sport NZ's Balance is Better site and key guides.

WHS Vision for Sport

Growing better people through sport and active recreation

The Vision for Sport at Wakatipu High School was developed in 2020 in consultation with students, staff, parents and the community. It is a key contributor to the WHS Akonga Profile and the driver for decision making in the sports space.

The vision process identified how important the holistic value of sport was for a wide range of people and how powerful a role sport can play in creating a positive culture in our school.

The WHS Vision for Sport should underpin all coaching at WHS.

The Wakatipu Way

WHS Values in Action

In 2022 the Sports Departmet, in conjunction with the Sports Council, developed The Wakatipu Way; a document outlining how the School Values that sit within the Akonga profile relate to the sporting environment at Wakatipu.

This document details what a great sportsperson does on the sports field / court and in school in terms of the school values of excellence, respect, responsibility, resilience, and inclusion.

It is expected that coaches hold their players to these standards on and off the field.

Balance is Better

Balance is Better is an evidence-based philosophy that underpins Sport NZ’s overall approach to youth sport. It is about creating quality experiences for all young people to keep them active and in the game.

WHS supports a Balance is Better approach and encourages all of our coaches to check out the range of valuable resources available on the Balance is Better site. It is free to sign up.
