Westhaven Radio Sailing caters for beginners to expert level radio control yacht skippers.
WRS gives people a way to get into radio sailing. You’re not simply racing model boats, radio sailing is a competitive, technical and social sport. Racing every Thursday and Saturday 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Saint Mary's Bay from the dingy pontoon opposite Pier S at Westhaven Marina with the International One Metre class being the club’s main focus.
WRS is not about winning at all costs, it’s all about the joy of sailing and the smiles from friendly competition with like-minded people. If this is what you are looking for, come sailing with us, new members are welcome and the team will be happy to discuss the sport with anyone interested.
International One Metre (IOM) are created according to what sailors call a 'box rule' and must be within set parameters. What makes the IOM particularly interesting is that sailors can design and fine-tune their boats within the class rules, so there’s a real mix of sailing skill, strategy, design and experimentation rather than simply controlling a boat from the shore. Although there are other RC boats of a similar size, the performance across a wide range of wind and water conditions makes the IOM the preferred boat for racing.
Learn the sport. Build your skills. Tune your boat. Race with the community. Come along and have a go!
